In Last Harbor, your boat is your lifeline. It is your mobile base, your means of travel, and your last stand against the horror spreading across the world. While most survival games anchor you to a fixed shelter, here the shelter moves with you across the sea.

The boat serves as the hub for nearly everything a survivor does. You build, maintain, customize, and upgrade the vessel over time, improving how well it withstands raids, how much it can craft and store, and how effectively it carries you through the archipelago. It can also house fellow survivors, turning a single boat into a small floating community.
Upgrading the boat strengthens your ability to survive. A better vessel can endure attacks, expand your crafting options, and travel the world more efficiently. Defense matters because the boat is a target: both the undead and other players may try to raid it, and an unattended boat is especially vulnerable to being looted while you are ashore.
When it is time to scavenge, survivors anchor near an unexplored island and launch a dinghy to go ashore. The main boat stays behind, which makes returning to it safely part of the challenge. Renting anchorage at a safe harbor is one way to protect a boat while you are away. Specific boat types, parts, and upgrade names have not yet been detailed.
