KYORA allows players to customize both the appearance of their character and the gear they equip. The character design was overhauled during development, in response to community feedback after the reveal, to allow for greater expressiveness and visual variety. The developers note that the customization options shown so far are a work in progress and may change before launch.
Appearance Customization
Players can adjust their character's visual appearance, including facial features such as hairstyles, facial hair, and eye color. The redesign introduced higher sprite detail to better reflect equipped gear sets and to let players see themselves as explorers in the world of KYORA.
Gear and Equipment Slots
KYORA features many equipment slots. The developers have noted that the number of slots is deliberately high, intending to give players plenty of options for building a character suited to their preferred playstyle or the demands of a particular biome. Beyond looking the part, clothing and armor carry stats that affect survivability.
Each armor piece provides distinct statistics that affect gameplay.
Stat Category | Effect |
|---|---|
Movement Speed | Affects how quickly the character moves through the world |
Maximum Health | Determines the total health pool available before death |
Resistances | Reduces damage from specific hazard types, such as environmental effects tied to biomes |
Defense | Reduces incoming damage from enemies and bosses |
Acquiring Gear
Gear can be obtained through three methods: crafting with resources gathered from the world, finding pieces in chests and microdungeons, or looting from defeated Heralds. Existing gear can also be upgraded using collected materials. The loadout that works in one biome may not be optimal for another, encouraging players to adapt their equipment as they progress.
Lantern
A lantern is a confirmed equippable item that dangles at the character's side during exploration, providing light for deep underground caverns. It is worn as an equipment piece rather than held manually.
