Anima Evolution is the namesake system of Honkai: Nexus Anima. An Anima can evolve into a new form, and each transformation visibly changes its appearance and its icon. The developers describe evolution as a sign of the bond between an Anima and the player taking shape, with the creature growing stronger to protect the moment that first brought them together.

Evolution is a branching advancement: an Anima can take on a changed model and a stronger battle presence. When an Anima evolves, the player can preserve the moment through a unique photo and give the companion a name of its own, tying the system to collection and attachment rather than only to combat power. This is distinct from Anima Collection, which covers how Anima are first caught, and from the Star Rating System, which governs an Anima's rarity tier.
On especially fortunate days, players may cross paths with a rare Chromatic Anima, an alternate-color variant of a standard creature. Chromatic Anima are a collection-focused rarity aimed at players who want to complete their roster with uncommon finds. The encounter chance has not been disclosed.
Because an evolved Anima keeps its place in the player's roster, evolution feeds directly into Auto-Chess Combat. A stronger evolved form contributes the same Aspect and Trait tags toward team synergies while bringing improved stats. Evolution was the headline feature of the Evolution Test, the third closed beta, where the system was first shown to players.
