Cuilian (Tempering): The Lore-Side Resonance Term
April 11, 2026 at 01:28 PM
Remove fabricated Confrontation/Assault/Support archetype names; replace with verified Resonance role system
Resonance progression in Honor of Kings: World covers the systems that let players grow and customize their Resonances over time. The verified pillars are: Resonance level, the Talent System (天赋), equipment and gear, and Resonance role assignment (对抗 Confrontation, 强攻 Offensive, 辅助 Support). Some third-party coverage has described a "Refinement System" (洗练系统) with specific archetype names like "Assault" or "Sustain," but this terminology is not confirmed in any primary Chinese source. The Baidu Baike primary text uses different language, which this article documents.
Each Resonance is assigned to one of three roles:
Role | Chinese | Function |
|---|---|---|
Confrontation | 对抗 Duikang | Frontline bruiser-tank; draws enemy attention, absorbs damage, still deals respectable damage |
Offensive | 强攻 Qiangong | High-burst window-seeking DPS; melee or ranged |
Support | 辅助 Fuzhu | Buffs, group CC, healing, shielding |
This three-role system replaces the Honor of Kings MOBA's five-lane classification. Each Resonance is fixed to one role at launch; players do not pick a role independently of their Resonance choice. Party composition in co-op content benefits from covering all three roles.
Each Resonance has its own Talents that enhance move properties, add new attacks, or modify existing skills. Talents are earned through gameplay progression (not gacha) and represent the primary customization lever within a Resonance. See the Talent System article for details.
Equipment and gear exist in Honor of Kings: World as a progression system earned through combat, crafting, and quest rewards. Exact item tiers, set bonuses, and upgrade paths have not been fully documented in English-language launch coverage. Gear is a horizontal and vertical progression system alongside Talents, where better gear provides stat increases and new set effects without replacing the need for mechanical skill.
A Chinese gameplay term, 淬炼 (Cuilian, "tempering" or "forging"), appears in Bilibili video titles and third-party discussions of Honor of Kings: World progression. Example: "王者荣耀世界 各英雄淬炼大盘点" (Honor of Kings: World Hero Cuilian Overview). This suggests 淬炼 may be an in-game upgrade system that works alongside Talents, possibly a refinement mechanism for Resonance stats or equipment. As of April 2026 it has not been fully documented in primary sources like Baidu Baike, so it should be considered reported but not fully verified.
Third-party English-language coverage has used terminology that is not supported by primary Chinese sources. Do not treat these as accurate:
A system called "Refinement" (洗练) - 洗练 does not appear in Baidu Baike or world.qq.com material for HoKW and is a term more common in Chinese gacha MMOs that use equipment reroll mechanics
Talent archetypes named "Assault," "Sustain," "Utility," "Vanguard," "Confrontation (as talent tree)" - these are aggregator inventions
Specific mutually-exclusive talent pair restrictions with fixed names
A system matching the MOBA's item-build progression (HoKW does not inherit MOBA items)
