Sofia Del Rio is the heroine of GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. Official material introduces her as a mysterious young woman who keeps watch over RE-X and monitors what he does, and then declines to say much else about her.

Role

She was among the first characters revealed, but for months the publisher gave her only a one-line description. Her surname arrived later than her given name: earlier material called her simply Sofia, and the full form Sofia Del Rio came with the expanded character listing.

The producers have said her character carries significant story implications they are not ready to discuss, which is an unusually direct way of confirming that the withholding is deliberate rather than a gap in the marketing. What she is watching for, and who she is watching for, are both still unanswered.

Appearance

Official art shows her with a short bob cut dyed through with pink, a choker, and a blue jacket worn off the shoulders over a plain top. She is drawn sitting on a bunk in a small cabin, knees pulled up, looking out through a wide window at a dark planet and the orbital structures around it. A purple spherical companion robot sits on the bed beside her, the same rounded shape as the Haro that accompanies RE-X.

Name

Her given name is written Sofia on the game's own Japanese site and on the official Gundam site. One regional English announcement spelled it Sophia, but the character artwork published with that same announcement was itself labelled Sofia, so Sofia is the form used here.
