RE-X

RE-X is the protagonist and playable character of GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. He is an ace pilot who takes the controls of the high-mobility mobile suit Gundam Helix in humanity's fight against the Apocalypse. In Japanese-language materials, RE-X's name is written as Reks (レクス).

Role

RE-X embodies the game's call to become the pilot you were born to be. He fights alongside a rag-tag crew of unsung soldiers, and the cinematic story follows his journey through the conflict. The development team has framed RE-X as a character the player can put themselves in the position of, experiencing the game through his eyes, and has said the story digs into his growth as a pilot.

Official materials put his role plainly: he is the pilot of Gundam Helix and the protagonist of the story, and he boards the Gundam to confront the threats humanity faces directly. He is shown in official art as a young man in a black and orange pilot suit, and in the key artwork carrying his helmet under one arm.

Vii

RE-X is partnered with Vii, a small round Haro that travels with him. The publisher describes Vii as a general-purpose intelligent assist unit built specifically for Gundam Helix, which makes it part of the machine's support systems rather than simply a mascot. Haros have accompanied pilots throughout the Gundam series, and this one is carried into the new universe in that role.

Japanese material writes the name ヴィー. Some early English coverage rendered it Vee before the publisher settled on Vii in its own English releases.

The Rest of the Cast

The story also involves Sofia Del Rio, a mysterious young woman who keeps watch over RE-X's actions. Later reveals added Big Paul, Elaine Galath and April Freeman. For the wider cast, see The Crew.
