Added immobilizer bypass mechanic, expanded vehicle categories, added vehicle storage details
Grand Theft Auto VI features over 200 confirmed vehicles spanning cars, motorcycles, boats, aircraft, and several new categories. The vehicle roster draws on the franchise's tradition of fictional manufacturers parodying real-world brands, with new additions tailored to the Leonida setting.
More than 200 distinct vehicles have been identified across official trailers and screenshots, with the total expected to exceed 300 by launch. This includes civilian, military, emergency, and commercial vehicles.
Cars make up the largest vehicle category. Identified models from trailers and screenshots include the Coquette D10 (sports car), Furia (supercar), Tempesta (sports car), Dominator (muscle car), Gauntlet Hellfire (muscle car), Jubilee (SUV), Astron (sedan), and Toros (SUV). Each uses a fictional manufacturer name consistent with the GTA universe.
At least nine motorcycles have been spotted in official materials, ranging from sport bikes to cruisers. Specific model names have not been confirmed for most of them.
The game's Florida-inspired setting places a heavy emphasis on water vehicles. Airboats (fan boats) are new to the franchise and suit the Grassrivers swamp region. Speed boats, yachts, dive boats, and kayaks have all been seen in trailers and screenshots.
At least 11 aircraft have been identified in official materials. Returning models include the Buzzard (attack helicopter), Maverick (civilian helicopter), Dodo (seaplane), and Duster (crop duster). Commercial aircraft are visible in scenes showing Vice City International Airport.
GTA VI introduces several vehicle types not seen in previous entries. Kayaks can be paddled through rivers. Bicycles return from San Andreas. Freight trains and trams are visible in Vice City, though it is unclear if players can operate them. Tow hitches allow vehicles to tow trailers, a new mechanic for the series.
A new mechanic called the "Immobilizer Bypass" has been confirmed through trailer footage and official materials. When stealing certain vehicles (particularly newer or luxury models), players must complete a brief bypass sequence to start the engine. This adds a layer of realism compared to the instant hotwiring of previous GTA games. Older or lower-end vehicles may not have immobilizers and can be stolen immediately.
Ride Out Customs, a mod shop, has been identified in official materials. Players can take their vehicles here for modifications. The full range of available upgrades has not been detailed by Rockstar, but previous entries offered performance and visual modifications.
Vehicles double as mobile armories. GTA VI limits what players can carry on their person (see Weapons and Combat), with additional weapons stored in vehicle trunks. This creates a practical reason to keep a vehicle nearby during missions.
Both third-person and first-person driving views are available, continuing the option introduced in GTA V's next-gen release. Vehicle interiors are far more detailed than previous entries, with working speedometers, gauges, and rearview mirrors that show accurate reflections of the environment behind the vehicle.
