Updated with full Rockstar website description and Trailer 2 details
Lucia Caminos is one of the two playable protagonists in Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Jason Duval. She is the first female playable protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game. Her full name was confirmed by Rockstar Games alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025.
According to Rockstar's official character profile, Lucia "has been a fighter from very early on, her father teaching her as soon as she could walk." She comes from a family with roots in Liberty City and ended up incarcerated in Leonida Penitentiary "for protecting her family." She is released through what Rockstar describes as "sheer luck."
After her release, Lucia wants to be smarter about how she lives her life. She is determined not to end up back behind bars, but circumstances pull her back into criminal activity when she partners with Jason.
Lucia is described as tough and street-smart, shaped by a difficult upbringing and prison experience. Her motivation after release is self-preservation and building something better. She is not naive about the world she operates in but wants to approach it with more calculation than before.
Trailer 1 first introduced her behind bars, establishing her prison backstory from the outset. Trailer 2 shows her in a wider range of settings: gym sparring, dressed up for nightlife in Vice City, and in intense mission sequences.
Lucia's partnership with Jason forms the core of GTA VI's narrative. After an easy score goes wrong, the two find themselves entangled in a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida. Rockstar's official synopsis describes them as being "forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
As the second playable character, Lucia is available through the protagonist switching system. Trailer footage shows her firing a multi-shot grenade launcher (resembling a Milkor MGL), fighting in an MMA cage, and sparring in a gym. The range of activities shown suggests her gameplay experience is fully fleshed out and not secondary to Jason's.
Lucia's role as the first female playable protagonist in a mainline GTA game received significant attention from press and fans alike. Previous GTA titles had exclusively male protagonists in the numbered entries (Claude, Tommy Vercetti, Carl Johnson, Niko Bellic, Michael/Franklin/Trevor). The franchise has featured female protagonists only in the portable GTA titles and GTA Online.
