Removed the unconfirmed southeastern-tip position, county and causeway origin; Hamlet is now described from its Trailer 2 road sign
11Overview22Hamlet is a city, apparently in Vice-Dale County, in the state of Leonida. Unlike the dense urban neighborhoods of Vice City, Hamlet is a smaller, more suburban incorporated city situated near the southeastern tip of mainland Leonida. It is a gateway to the Leonida Keys, with the Keys Causeway originating south of the city. Rockstar has not published county boundaries, so its county is not confirmed.3+Hamlet is a city in the state of Leonida, named on a Keys Causeway road sign in the opening shot of Trailer 2. It appears to be modelled on Homestead, Florida, the last city before the Florida Keys, and is often placed in Vice-Dale County, but Rockstar has not published county boundaries or shown where Hamlet sits (checked September 29, 2026).44Geography66Hamlet occupies a position at the southern end of the Leonida mainland, south of Vice City proper. The Keys Causeway (a section of U.S. Route 3) originates south of Hamlet, providing the only motorist access to the Leonida Keys chain of islands.7+Because the sign that names Hamlet is a Keys Causeway sign, the town is usually taken to lie on the road to the Leonida Keys, as Homestead does in real-world Florida. Rockstar has not shown the causeway's route or where it begins.88The terrain surrounding Hamlet transitions from suburban development to the agricultural flatlands and eventually the wetlands of the Grassrivers (Leonida's Everglades equivalent) to the west.10-Points of Interest1210LocationTypeDescriptionLeonida PenitentiaryPrisonA state correctional facility operated by the Leonida Department of Corrections. Homestead is the second-largest city in the county and sits at the southern edge of the Miami metropolitan area, serving as the last major urban center before the Florida Keys. Several features link the two:2321Homestead's central commercial spine is North Krome Avenue, characteristic of the compact small-city Florida layout that Hamlet evokes. The Keys Causeway south of Hamlet mirrors the Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1), which begins south of Homestead and carries traffic through the Florida Keys to Key West. The Hamlet Water Tower is modeled after the real Homestead Water Tower, a local landmark. Both cities sit at the transition between suburban development and the expansive wetlands to the west (Grassrivers in Leonida; the Everglades in Florida).22+Homestead's central commercial spine is North Krome Avenue, characteristic of the compact small-city Florida layout that Hamlet evokes. The Keys Causeway named on the Hamlet sign recalls the Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1), which begins south of Homestead and carries traffic through the Florida Keys to Key West. The Hamlet Water Tower is modeled after the real Homestead Water Tower, a local landmark.2523The name "Hamlet" evokes a small settlement or village, fitting for a city that is considerably smaller than the urban sprawl of Vice City to the north.24+The name "Hamlet" evokes a small settlement or village, fitting for a city that is considerably smaller than Vice City.2725Trivia2927The Leonida Penitentiary near Hamlet is central to the game's narrative, as it is where Lucia begins her story arc.Real-world Homestead was devastated by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, one of the most destructive natural disasters in U.S. history. The name "Hamlet" is also the title of Shakespeare's play about a prince of Denmark, though this is likely coincidental rather than an intentional reference.
