Noted that the October 15, 2026 Launch Trailer was the next Grand Theft Auto VI video after the showcase
11Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is a 26 minute 48 second gameplay showcase that Rockstar Games premiered on 27 August 2026. It is the third major promotional release for Grand Theft Auto VI after the two official trailers, and the first to lead with extended gameplay rather than a cinematic edit.22At roughly twenty-seven minutes of continuous play and cutscene, the showcase is the largest single body of confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI material released so far, and most of what this wiki records about the game's on-screen systems comes from it rather than from the two trailers.55Release and Format77The showcase premiered as a Netflix Live event at 3:00 PM ET on 27 August 2026, which meant the first audience for it needed a Netflix subscription. Netflix held it exclusively for six hours. It then went out free on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel at 9:00 PM ET the same evening, alongside the official Grand Theft Auto VI site.99Netflix stated that the showcase was captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5. That statement does not distinguish between the base PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, so the exact hardware configuration remains unspecified.1111DetailValueFull titleGrand Theft Auto VI: An Extended LookPremiere date27 August 2026Netflix premiere3:00 PM ET, subscription requiredFree release9:00 PM ET, six hours laterRuntime26 minutes 48 secondsCapture platformIn-game footage on PlayStation 5FormatGameplay-led, opening directly into play1313Viewership1414The showcase went out on two platforms that count an audience differently, so the figures below should not be added together or compared directly. Netflix reports views as total hours watched divided by runtime, while YouTube counts plays.1616MeasureFigureNetflix, week of 24 to 30 August 2026Number one on the global film chart, with 31.1 million views. The count stood at 28,815,677 views on 23 September 2026 and at 27,095,072 views on 12 September 2026, when it had roughly 1.5 million likes.Announcement teaser, measured 13 October 202610,017,753 views for the 25 second teaser published on 6 August 2026 that announced the showcase date.1818Netflix publishes rank and view counts but no country breakdown. Figures circulating for the number of countries in which the showcase topped the chart differ substantially between accounts and are not recorded here. Viewers also reported streaming problems in the minutes immediately before the premiere began.1919Sequences Shown2121The showcase followed Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through a connected run of jobs rather than a highlight reel of disconnected scenes. The sequences shown, in the order they appear, are below.2323SequenceWhat HappensDrug pickup for Boobie IkeJason and Lucia walk into a Vice City apartment block to collect a package for the music mogul, dealing with a contact named Raymond. The handover is interrupted by a police drug raid after a caller named Nesto phones in a warning that a task force is inbound, and the pair shoot their way out with the drugs.Domestic sceneA quieter stretch in Lucia's apartment, built around the fridge, the television and a run of parody commercials. It establishes tone rather than demonstrating a mechanic.Rooftop meeting with Brian HederA meeting with Heder and his wife Lori at a rooftop bar called the Effluvia in downtown Vice City, roughly eleven minutes in. Heder hands out another job and warns Jason against sinking any deeper, while Jason drinks a Pißwasser. The scene locks the player to a single protagonist, one of the examples used to show that switching is gated rather than free.Free-roam montageAn intercut run of legal and illegal activity across Leonida, set around an area named Bayside and taking in boating through swamp, gym training, basketball, jet skis, kayaking and racing.Getaway drive for Raul BautistaLucia drives the getaway from a bank job, shaking a four star police response that ends with the car burned out by a Molotov. Bautista then invites the pair into his crew and argues for treating crime as a profession.Bodyguard job at a corporate openingThe finale is a hostage siege at a formal event where Jason and Lucia are working private security for a figure named Andres de Leon, ending with a private plane and a change of disguise. The fullest account identifies the event as the opening of the first American headquarters of Megamundo, a Spanish-language television network, and places Valentina there handing the pair the work.2525Two details above are attested unevenly. The bank robber is named in two of the fullest write-ups of the showcase and left unnamed in two others, and the identity of the event in the finale appears in only one detailed account. Both are recorded here as reported detail rather than as published Rockstar material.2626Systems Confirmed2828The showcase put a number of systems on screen for the first time.3030SystemWhat Was ShownCharacter switchingSwitching between the two protagonists was shown directly, including a swap performed mid-freefall during a base jump.Non-lethal takedownsThe aiming reticle changes colour to signal lethality, showing red on a kill and yellow otherwise, giving the player a live readout during a fight.Vehicle theftStealing a car is no longer a single button press. Locks are jimmied open through a short minigame, and higher-tier vehicles add trackers and key-fob cloning.MinimapThe minimap renders three-dimensional buildings rather than the flat radar used in earlier entries.Interaction menuA context-sensitive menu appears in the lower right of the screen for interacting with characters and animals, including dogs.Clothing wheelOutfits can be changed in the field. The weapon wheel flips over to a second wheel holding clothing and other items, used on screen to equip a mask before a store robbery.Destructible environmentsWalls break under force, shown when one of Raymond's associates drives a police officer through a wall during the raid.In-game televisionSatirical television commercials play on in-game sets, continuing the series tradition of parody broadcast media.Wanted systemA six star wanted meter appears on screen, with icons tracking what the police have identified: face, clothing, vehicle, and the fact that the pair are travelling together. Stars shift from white to red once contact is broken. See Wanted System.FocusA focus meter drives a slow-motion state during gunfights, with vitals highlighting that marks a killshot in red and a disarming shot in yellow.Weapon visibilityTwo handguns are carried concealed at all times and two long guns are carried visibly, one in hand and one on the back. Pedestrians and police react to a weapon that is on show, and a concealment animation plays before entering a store. See Weapons and Combat.RefuellingVehicles need fuel or charge. The stop is short, described by Rockstar North as taking around ten seconds.Disguises and heatMasks, haircuts, changes of clothing and vehicle swaps all reduce how well the police can identify the pair, and splitting up lowers police perception further. A circle marks the area being searched rather than a blip on each pursuing car. See Law Enforcement.Quick-time promptsSome close-quarters struggles resolve through an on-screen choice between two buttons, including an escape for Lucia that ends with a heel to an assailant's face.First personNo first-person mode was shown. First-person framing appears only down a weapon scope.AnimalsDogs can be petted and scolded through the interaction menu. A chihuahua in a purple tutu and fairy wings appears in the montage, and a pod of manatees swims through the swamps. See Wildlife.3232On-Screen Interface3333The showcase runs with a visible heads-up display for most of its length. Accounts of the footage describe a six star wanted meter, an ammunition counter, an equipped-weapon icon in the upper right of the screen, a focus meter, a weapon wheel that flips over to hold clothing and items, a minimap that renders buildings in three dimensions, and a small cluster of icons covering health, wardrobe and vehicle condition.3535One early account described the showcase as running without on-screen interface elements. That reading is not supported by the wider coverage, which describes the display above in detail, and it should not be treated as a statement about how Grand Theft Auto VI presents itself in play.3737Named Content3939Several proper nouns appeared on screen for the first time. Weapons now carry manufacturer brands and model numbers rather than generic class names: a Moreland 850 Shotgun is named on screen when Jason picks it up off the floor. See Weapons and Combat for the wider weapon roster.4141Returning consumer brands were visible in gameplay rather than inferred from signage: Sprunk and eCola cans appear in Jason's fridge, a Gruppe-Sechs armoured car appears, and a Fleeca logo is visible. Two phone applications were also shown, WAINK, used to scan vehicles, and Ryde Me, a rideshare service. See Fictional Brands and Parodies and In-Game Phone and Apps.4343In-fiction media ran throughout. A box meal from Prairie is advertised at thirty thousand calories, an in-fiction video game called Righteous Slaughter: Hood Ops is credited to an in-fiction developer named Misfire Games, and Lovefist appears among the returning labels alongside Pißwasser. A Vice City Sentinel convertible features in the montage, and Fleeca Bank stickers are visible on a fridge door.4545Lucia's wardrobe changes repeatedly across the run, taking in a skeleton-stitched leather jacket, a pink cocktail dress, a short blonde wig, a black bob and braids worked into a bun, with bandanas and face coverings selectable from the item wheel. Seventeen distinct side activities were counted across the montage, from airboating and kayaking to backyard wrestling and a shooting range. See Clothing and Appearance and Side Activities.4747Music4949Fifteen licensed tracks play across the showcase, in the order below. They are the music of a promotional special, not a published in-game radio playlist. Coverage of the showcase did not name a radio station at all. Rockstar named no further station until 8 October 2026, when it previewed six; with Coral Chorus that makes seven named stations as of 13 October 2026, and nothing in this list should be read as confirmed for a station or for the game's soundtrack. Around the time of the premiere, Rockstar North's head of development told attendees at a hands-off preview that the console builds were running at 30 frames per second at that stage of development, and that whether a 60 frames per second option would ship at launch or arrive later had not been decided. Rockstar itself has published no resolution, frame rate or ray-tracing target.5656The PlayStation Store lists the game with a PS5 Pro Enhanced tag and does not say what that enhancement consists of, a position unchanged as of 13 October 2026. Frame-by-frame breakdowns of the video circulated afterwards, but those are analyses of a compressed stream rather than a published specification, and their numbers are not recorded here as targets. See Technology and RAGE Engine for the wider technical picture.5858Credits6060The showcase carries a short credit list of its own, separate from the game's.6262RoleCreditedProducerRob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar NorthCo-writerRupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrativeCo-writerMichael Wiafe, writer6464Chinese Release and Censorship6565On 31 August 2026, four days after the premiere, a censored version of the showcase was published for Chinese platforms, with smoking, dancing, nudity and blood obscured. That cut was not present in the version that went out on Netflix on 27 August, which means the censorship was applied afterwards rather than built into the showcase from the start.6767Accounts differ on the mechanism and are best left unreconciled. One describes the censored cut as posted to Rockstar's own channel on a Chinese video platform while an uncensored version remained reachable through the company's own site in that market. Another describes the change as applied to the Chinese version of the showcase generally. Both agree on the date, on the categories of content obscured, and on the fact that the change came after the premiere. Rockstar and Take-Two also issued takedown requests against copies of the unblurred video circulating on Chinese platforms.6969Reception Context7171The Netflix arrangement drew comment in its own right. Placing a games showcase behind a streaming subscription for its first six hours was read as a sign of the scale Rockstar and its publisher are treating the release with, rather than as a conventional games-marketing beat.7373Marketing Around the Premiere7575Two separate approaches to the real city that Vice City is modelled on ran through the same weeks, and they are not the same arrangement. Miami Beach city commissioners approved a marketing collaboration with Rockstar covering signage and beach umbrellas, reported both as a narrow commission vote on 10 September 2026 and as approval of a deal worth around three million dollars on 11 September. The figure is reported rather than settled.7777Separately, a wider Miami-Dade County proposal, which would have included a radio-themed installation at the county's main library, was still in negotiation as of 12 September 2026 and was publicly opposed by the county sheriff and at least one commissioner, who objected to promoting a fictional version of the area defined by crime and violence. The two proposals involve different bodies and different scopes, and the outcome of one settles nothing about the other.7979The county arrangement was later reported to have gone ahead. On 22 September 2026 a large Welcome to Vice City sign was being installed on top of the Kaseya Center arena in Miami, and local reporting put Miami-Dade County's fee for that sign alone at about $975,000. Miami Beach and the City of Miami were also reported to have their own deals with Rockstar. These figures come from local reporting, not from Rockstar.8181Marketing in Miami continued into October. On 2 October 2026 the Miami Heat announced A Night in Vice City: on 18 November 2026, the eve of launch, the team plays the Milwaukee Bucks at the Kaseya Center as Vice City, wearing new uniforms on a specially built court, with the match televised live and Vice City merchandise sold by the team.8383In early October 2026 the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office clarified that the sheriff's September objections concerned the proposed use of publicly owned facilities, such as public transport, transit stations and Miami International Airport, to promote the game, and were not aimed at promotional decisions by private businesses.8585Around the same time Rockstar sent packages of Grand Theft Auto VI merchandise, including caps, t-shirts, tote bags and stickers, to content creators and some press, and a televised late-night comedy sketch on 3 October 2026 staged Jason Duval against the hero of a rival November release. These are reported marketing beats rather than announcements about the game's content.8787Rockstar's other partnerships around the showcase were with Netflix, which approached Rockstar about carrying the premiere rather than the other way round, and with PlayStation, which announced two limited-edition controllers on 3 September 2026. Console hardware sales rose in the week following the premiere, by roughly fourteen percent in the United States and by around a third in the United Kingdom. See Platforms and Editions for the retail picture.8989The showcase did not change the release date. Grand Theft Auto VI remains scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of 13 October 2026 Rockstar had published no further Grand Theft Auto VI video on its YouTube channel since the showcase, and it has called nothing it released Trailer 3. See Release Delays Timeline for the full schedule history.90+The showcase did not change the release date. Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto VI video after the showcase was the Launch Trailer of 15 October 2026, and it has called no video Trailer 3. See Release Delays Timeline for the full schedule history.
