Revision 1

Antlion is an optional level 20 enemy with 20,000 HP. Enter the sand whirlpool southwest of Kol on foot to reach it. The fight can be attempted during Chapter 1, but its level makes it a substantial detour from the main route.

Battle approach

Antlion is weak to water and counters physical attacks. Water magic from Terra gives the party a way to exploit that weakness without provoking those physical counters. Use Protect or Debrave to reduce incoming damage, and avoid treating ordinary attacks as a harmless way to conserve MP.
