Fable (2027) is built on the ForzaTech engine, a proprietary engine created by Turn 10 Studios and adapted by Playground Games for RPG use. Playground Games has published a minimum and a recommended PC specification, and separately a spec chart that sets out four presets with resolution and frame rate targets. All of it is reproduced below. The game is scheduled for February 2027, and system requirements are typically published closer to launch.
Confirmed Platforms
Platform | Status |
|---|---|
Xbox Series X|S | Confirmed, launch title |
PlayStation 5 | Confirmed, announced January 2026 |
Windows PC (Steam) | Confirmed |
Day one availability | |
Xbox Cloud Gaming | Confirmed |
Fable is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning a single digital purchase works on both Xbox and PC. The PlayStation 5 version was confirmed alongside the Developer Direct in January 2026, making Fable a multiplatform release at launch.
Expected Hardware Demands
Beyond the published minimum floor, the engine's feature set is a rough guide to what the game leans on. The ForzaTech engine carries these capabilities across from the Forza games. They are engine features, not a second requirements tier:
Component | Capability |
|---|---|
Ray tracing | Supported by the engine; not confirmed for Fable specifically |
Dynamic weather | Full weather system with changing conditions |
Dense NPC simulation | Over 1,000 characters with individual behavior |
Open-world streaming | Seamless terrain loading across the entire map |
Vegetation rendering | Detailed plant life and foliage throughout Albion |
Official Minimum Requirements (PC)
These are the official minimum PC specifications published on the Steam store page. They are the developer's stated floor for running the game, not a community estimate. An SSD is required, and the install footprint is 135 GB.
Component | Minimum |
|---|---|
Operating System | Windows 10 22H2 (64-bit) |
Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i7-6850K / Intel Core i5-10400 |
Memory | 12 GB RAM |
Graphics | AMD Radeon RX 6600 / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 / Intel Arc A580 |
DirectX | Version 12 |
Storage | 135 GB available space (SSD required) |
Video Memory | 6 GB |
Both tiers are the developer's own figures rather than community estimates. The game's open-world design and dense NPC simulation are why an SSD is required rather than merely suggested, and the studio notes that memory profile support and resizable BAR are recommended on both tiers.
Official Recommended Requirements (PC)
Component | Recommended |
|---|---|
Operating System | Windows 10 22H2 (64-bit), with memory profile support and resizable BAR recommended |
Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 / Intel Core i5-11600KF |
Memory | 16 GB RAM |
Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT or RX 6700 XT |
Video Memory | 8 GB |
DirectX | Version 12 |
Storage | 135 GB available space (SSD required) |
The gap between the two tiers is narrower than the raw model numbers suggest. Both ask for the same operating system, the same DirectX version and the same 135 GB SSD install; what moves is system memory (12 GB to 16 GB), video memory (6 GB to 8 GB) and the graphics card itself. The video memory floors are worth noting separately because a card can meet the named model and still fall short on memory.
PC Spec Chart Presets
The studio also publishes a PC spec chart that goes further than the storefront requirements block. It lists four presets rather than two, and it is the only place that pairs each preset with a resolution and a frame rate target. Low and Medium correspond to the published minimum and recommended tiers above; High and Ultra are not reproduced in the storefront listing at all.
Preset | Target | Processor | Graphics | Video Memory | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Low | 1080p at 30 FPS | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i7-6850K | NVIDIA RTX 5050, NVIDIA RTX 2060, AMD RX 6600 or Intel Arc A580 | 6 GB | 12 GB |
Medium (marked recommended) | 1440p at 30 FPS, or 1200p at 60 FPS | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 / Intel Core i5-11600KF | NVIDIA RTX 5060, NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 9060 XT or AMD RX 6700 XT | 8 GB | 16 GB |
High | 1440p at 60 FPS | AMD Ryzen 7 7700X / Intel Core i7-12700K | NVIDIA RTX 5070, NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti, AMD RX 9070 or AMD RX 7900 XT | 12 GB | 16 GB |
Ultra | 4K at 60 FPS | AMD Ryzen 9 7900X / Intel Core i9-13900K | NVIDIA RTX 5080 or NVIDIA RTX 4080 | 16 GB | 16 GB |
Every preset asks for the same operating system, Windows 10 22H2, with memory profile support and resizable BAR recommended, and every preset requires an SSD. The 135 GB install figure comes from the storefront listing rather than from the chart.
Two details are worth reading carefully. First, the developer's own requirements answers name recommended graphics cards, the RTX 5060 and the RX 9060 XT, and an 8 GB video memory floor that the storefront requirements block leaves out; the fuller list is the superset rather than a contradiction to be trimmed back. Second, the chart makes clear that 30 FPS is the target for the Low and Medium presets only. High is built around 1440p at 60 FPS and Ultra around 4K at 60 FPS, so the game is not a 30 FPS PC release across the board.
Upscaling and Display Features
On PC the game supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 3 and FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.1. Playground Games also lists 4K output, HDR10 and uncapped frame rates, so the preset figures above are tuning targets rather than a cap: an upscaler on a card that clears the preset can push well past them. The game runs on DirectX 12.
Storefront Technical Details
The PC storefront listing carries a handful of technical details that sit outside the requirements tables:
Feature | Status |
|---|---|
Players | Single-player only |
Controller | Full controller support |
Input recommendation | Gamepad Recommended |
Account sharing | Family Sharing supported |
Graphics API | DirectX 12 |
Storage | 135 GB, SSD required |
The same listing gives ten supported languages, four of them with full audio and the rest text only. See Platforms and Release for the full localisation breakdown.
Optimization Expectations
Playground Games has significant experience optimizing open-world games for both high-end and mid-range hardware. The Forza Horizon series is known for running well across a wide range of PCs. Whether that optimization quality carries over to Fable's very different gameplay demands remains to be seen.
The shift from racing (vehicles at high speed with minimal NPC interaction) to RPG (character on foot surrounded by hundreds of simulated NPCs) presents unique optimization challenges. The 1,000+ NPC simulation with individual routines is computationally expensive and will likely be a performance bottleneck on lower-end systems.
Console Performance
Playground Games has confirmed that players will be able to choose between 30 and 60 frames per second, and has said more detail on performance will follow closer to launch. Per-platform resolution targets have not been confirmed for any console.
Age Ratings
On May 22, 2026, the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee classified Fable as Not Available to Minors (18+), citing language related to sexual acts, frequent killing and bodily mutilation with weapons, criminal acts based on user choices, and excessive vulgar language. The Australian Classification Board assigned an M rating for Violence and Mature Themes around the same time. The ESRB has rated the game M for Mature 17+ (Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Violence). See Platforms and Release for the broader rating-board context. PEGI has rated the game 18 for Violence and Bad Language.
