Amber Coast is one of the two regions playable in the Steam Next Fest demo of Embers of the Uncrowned, and the first settlement the player claims for House Harborwell. It is a coastal frontier at the western end of the Valdorion Peninsula, once held by House Ambertail and abandoned thirty years ago. The player and the companion Eslyn Ambertail, whose family once ruled here, arrive after escaping the fall of Goldenhaven and begin rebuilding from the ruins.
A Forgotten Frontier
Amber Coast was once a prosperous frontier domain under House Ambertail. Thirty years ago, beasts displaced by the elves opening the sea routes overran the land. House Ambertail fled to Goldenhaven and abandoned its people, and the coast, left without a lord, fell to the beasts. In the years since, neighboring lords used the deserted land as a dumping ground for criminals they had cast out. To Eslyn, who grew up only on stories of it, Amber Coast was a hometown she had never seen. When she and the player arrive after the fall of Goldenhaven, the region begins to stir back to life.
The player's first task as lord is to claim Amber Coast as the new settlement of House Harborwell, then drive out the monsters that hold the surrounding lands through Region Liberation. The land is barren, the buildings are in ruin, and the people are plagued by monsters. The intent the development team has described is the experience of building something from nothing in a desolate place.
Notable Areas
The dev lore for Amber Coast describes several distinct locations along the ruined coastline.
Area | Description |
|---|---|
Final Destination of the Abandoned | An outer entryway into Amber Coast. A desolate beach littered with shipwreck remains, the bodies of vagabonds washed ashore, and half-buried luggage. It is where banished criminals take their last steps, a place from which almost no one returns alive. |
Lair of Greedy Breeders | A Bari nest near the village ruins. The burrow, shaped from mud and mucus, is packed with newly laid eggs, and the Nannies guarding them lunge at any intruder. Eslyn was told the true cause of House Ambertail's flight was the Pitmother, the colossal matriarch of the Bari. |
Resting Place of Sunken Treasures | A cove where countless ships drifted ashore and ran aground. The merfolk claimed it first. Vicious, powerful, and greedy, they dragged everything the humans left behind back to their lair, including heirlooms of House Ambertail lost during the flight thirty years ago. |
The Deepest Mudflat | The most desolate stretch of coastline, where creatures driven out by the power struggles between the merfolk and the Bari have gathered. Once a pirate hideout, its decaying docks still haunt the mudflats, and beneath them lurk things that are neither human nor beast. |
Creatures and Threats
The Pitmother: The colossal matriarch of the Bari and, by Eslyn's account, the true reason House Ambertail fled the coast. The Bari nest near the village ruins, where Nannies guard the eggs.
Merfolk: Greedy sea raiders who seized the best stretch of coast and hoard the treasures left behind by both humans and shipwrecks.
Mudflat dwellers: Creatures driven into the deepest mudflat by the territorial war between the merfolk and the Bari, described as neither fully human nor fully beast.
Like the rest of the continent of Rinea, Amber Coast is marked by Elven Stakes that the invaders drove into the ground to weaken humankind. Only those with a special power can see and destroy them.
Role in the Settlement
Amber Coast is where the player first builds out a settlement, recruits Followers, and gathers resources. Restoring the region and liberating its surrounding lands provides the resources and trade that let the settlement grow. In the demo the player governs two domains and liberates regions to rebuild the House from empty ruins. The neighboring magical city of Towerstead is the demo's second playable region.
Amber Coast is a region of Embers of the Uncrowned, the dark fantasy MMO action RPG from NEXON. Details here reflect the Steam Next Fest demo build and may change as the game develops.
