Asmodeus is the archdemon at the center of the story in Ember and Blade. He has been sealed away in a forsaken realm for centuries, and the entire quest of the protagonist Fenrix revolves around preventing his return.
Asmodeus is not an enemy the player simply encounters in passing. He is a looming, central threat: a powerful archdemon who has been locked behind a seal for centuries. That seal is the linchpin of the realm's fragile balance, and the world itself bears the marks of divine fire and demonic corruption that his presence implies.
For as long as the seal has held, Asmodeus has remained imprisoned in the forsaken realm. The vigil over that seal has not been easy. It has been kept by the lone guardian Ariella, who according to the official material has watched over it alone for 500 years. Her long, solitary watch and her tragic fate are tied directly to Asmodeus's continued imprisonment, and they pull Fenrix into the story. The realm that holds him is covered in The Sealed Realm.
The danger that sets the plot in motion is the threat that Asmodeus could be resurrected. Should the seal fail and the archdemon return, the consequences would be catastrophic for the realm. Preventing that resurrection is the goal that gives Fenrix's endless, run-based struggle its purpose.
Stopping Asmodeus's resurrection is the central objective of Ember and Blade. Every run, every blessing chosen, and every boss defeated serves that larger aim. The broader narrative built around this goal is described in Story and Setting.
