Revision 1

The story of Edge of Memories follows Eline, a Soul Whisperer who travels the continent of Avaris as a plague called The Corrosion threatens to wipe out its nomadic peoples. As of October 2026, plot details beyond the premise and the opening chapter shown in the demo had not been revealed, so this page covers only what official material has shown so far.

Premise

The Corrosion, "a plague of unparalleled proportions, has already ravaged the Astryan continent", according to the store description. On the other side of the world lies Avaris. Its nomadic peoples have been spared so far, but they "now stand on the brink of extinction".

Eline is "an itinerant Soul Whisperer". She travels from city to city offering comfort, and the reveal press release says she uses her abilities to heal the tormented inhabitants. She fights against the force that is turning fauna, flora and humans into "grotesque abominations". After a mysterious encounter, a dark power wakes inside her, giving her the ability to control the Corrosion within her own body.

Memory

Memory comes up repeatedly in official material. A May 2025 developer post said Eline has fragmented memories of her past. While the demo was available in June 2026, a developer explained on the Steam forums that she "has traded parts of her memory for powers" and added that "She's not a full amnesiac".

The October 2025 Story Trailer built its pitch around the same idea, with the line "How far would you go to remember who you are?" It also showed Eline confronting her Black Beast mode, the transformation described on the Combat page.

Themes

The reveal press release lists the themes as "the exodus of peoples, a world plagued by disease, the quest for origins, and the need to adapt to an ever-changing environment".

The store page promises a story with "no fillers", in which "every quest matters". It describes nomadic civilizations forced to migrate and a people "who have chosen to await death while celebrating life". An October 2025 news post on Steam carried the line "If the gods are not going to answer the people's prayers, then it falls to man."

The August 2025 gameplay trailer also hinted at mysterious forces influencing events from behind the scenes. As of October 2026, official material had not said who or what they are.

Main Characters

Ysoris and Kanta fight alongside Eline but are not playable. More on both is on the Companions page.

Setting

The game takes place in Heryon, a world where the Astryan continent has already fallen to the Corrosion and Avaris is next. The developers have said it shares that world with Edge of Eternity and takes place after that game's events, but on a different continent with a different cast and as a self-contained story that does not require the earlier game.

Writing Team

Other collaborators, including the character designer and composers, are listed on the Development History page.
