Avaris is the continent on which Edge of Memories is set. It lies in the world of Heryon, on the other side of the world from the Astryan continent, which The Corrosion has already ravaged. The store page describes Avaris as "a land of many faces" that "is as scarred as the rest of Heryon".
Its nomadic peoples were spared by the plague for a time, but the store copy says they "now stand on the brink of extinction". Players will cross Avaris as Eline, a Soul Whisperer travelling between its cities.
Official material has named a handful of places so far. As of October 2026, no full map or location list had been published.
Location | Type | Details from official material |
|---|---|---|
Sarlah-Durah | Port city | Described with "idyllic sandy shores"; a developer post on the music mentions its markets |
Kezal Mountains | Mountain range | Snow-capped peaks |
Kalden-Uzaris | Desert | Shown being crossed on a Nekaroo |
The plains | Region | Has its own main theme, Eline's Journey |
The wider world also includes the Astryan continent, which official material places on the other side of Heryon and describes as already ravaged by the Corrosion.
The store page describes nomadic civilizations forced to migrate, and a people "who have chosen to await death while celebrating life". A February 2026 developer post explains that many nomads have been forced into "a sedentary lifestyle, taking root in parts still unclaimed by the Corrosion". Kanta, one of Eline's allies, is described as the "shaman prince of a lost tribe" (see Companions).
The people of Heryon have their own fictional language, Heryonese. It appears in some of the soundtrack's lyrics, written by vocalist Marion Schneider; see Music and Soundtrack.
Avaris will not stay the same over the course of the game. As the story moves on, the Corrosion advances and reshapes places players have already visited, sometimes leaving landmarks "almost unrecognisable" and opening new paths. The Exploration page covers how this works in play.
Official sources describe the look of Avaris in two ways. The current store copy calls the visuals "inspired by Japanese animation", while the February 2025 reveal press release spoke of "an artistic touch inspired by French animation". The game's character designer is Raita Kazama.
The Official Digital Artbook in the Digital Deluxe Edition traces the creation of Avaris from the first sketches to the final illustrations (see Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses).
Heryon is also the world of Midgar Studio's earlier game Edge of Eternity, but Avaris is a different continent from the one that game used, with a different cast.
