DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World launches on Thursday, December 3, 2026, as a simultaneous worldwide release across all five platforms. Buyers of the Digital Deluxe Edition get in 48 hours early.
Release date
December 3, 2026 is the date on the North American press listing, the Steam store page, the Square Enix Store, the official Japanese site and the official Western site. The Japanese site words it as 2026年12月3日(木)発売.
There is one wrinkle worth stating plainly rather than smoothing over. Square Enix's Japanese site carries a footnote reading ※Steam版は12月4日(金)発売予定, and its English-language Asia page says the same thing: the Steam version is scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026. Steam's own store page lists December 3, 2026, and that date is identical in every regional Steam storefront. Both statements are first-party. December 4 is the date Square Enix gives Japanese customers, and December 3 is the date the Steam listing shows.
Early access
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes 48 hours of early access. Start times differ for Steam.
Version | Early access begins |
|---|---|
All platforms except Steam | December 1, 2026 at 00:00 Japan time |
Steam | December 2, 2026 at 02:00 Japan time |
Square Enix asks buyers to check the store page for their own platform for the exact start time in their region. The Steam listing itself presents the same window as Advance Access starting December 1 and describes it as playing two days ahead of full release.
To qualify, you have to pre-order the Digital Deluxe download edition by 00:00 Japan time on Thursday, December 3, 2026. The Japanese physical Masters Edition and the Super Masters Edition do not include early access, as covered on Japanese Editions and Retailer Bonuses.
The purchase-order trap
On the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch download versions, buying in the wrong order costs you the bonus outright.
If you have pre-ordered the Standard Edition and then pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition, you must cancel the Standard pre-order before it is charged in order to use the early access included with the Deluxe edition
The cancellation has to happen by November 25, 2026. From November 26, 2026 onward, buying Standard first and Deluxe second no longer grants early access
If payment for the Standard Edition has already completed, buying the Digital Deluxe Edition afterwards does not restore the early access bonus
