Corrected the count of monsters with a published English name, family and rank from five to seven, adding mud mannequin and jumping jackal

Stopped the English-name arithmetic depending on a total that two source lists count differently
11Square Enix states that DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World holds more than 500 monster species, drawn both from the wider DRAGON QUEST series and from creatures new to this game. Every one of them is described by four properties: a family, a rank, a size, and a personality.2233PropertyValuesWhat it governsFamily8 familiesBroad species grouping. Seven of them have appeared in published material. Five have a confirmed English name; two more have been shown only in Japanese, and Square Enix has not published an English rendering for either.7788FamilyJapanese nameStatusSlimeスライム系English name confirmedDragonドラゴン系English name confirmedNature自然系English name confirmedBeast魔獣系English name confirmedMaterial物質系English name confirmedNot published in English悪魔系Japanese name onlyNot published in Englishゾンビ系Japanese name onlyNot published in any languageNot publishedThe eighth family is confirmed by the stated count of eight, but its name has never been given99The eighth family does not appear anywhere in the material published so far, in either language, including on the official monster listings. Its name is genuinely unknown rather than merely untranslated.10101111Ranks12121313Each monster sits at one of nine ranks, which Square Enix describes as running from G to X. Seven of those steps appear in published examples: G, F, E, D, C, B and A. The step between A and X has not been named, and no monster has been shown at rank X yet.14141515Rank is not a simple power level you outgrow. Synthesis reads rank directly: pushing a parent's Plus Value high enough can produce a child that outranks both of its parents, and one of the published worked examples pairs a rank G monster with a rank E monster to produce a rank D child. See Synthesis.16161717Sizes18181919Monsters are either small (S) or large (L). A large monster costs two of your four active party slots, but it carries more Traits than a small one and many large monsters act more than once per turn. Outside battle, size makes no difference: any monster can walk the field with you.20202121Personality22222323Personality varies between individuals of the same species, and it sets both the upper limits of a monster's attributes and how fast they grow. Two otherwise identical monsters can therefore develop quite differently. Items exist for changing a monster's personality, so the roll you get when you recruit one is not permanent. See Monster Growth and Talents.24242525Monsters named in English26262727Two separate sets of monster information have been published, and they barely overlap. Square Enix has put out official English names for 17 monsters, and individual Japanese profile pages, each giving a family and a rank, for 23. Seven species currently have all three of an English name, a family and a rank on record. Five of them are the overlap between those two sets. The other two, mud mannequin and jumping jackal, have no individual profile page: their family and rank are stated inside the worked synthesis examples instead, which is easy to miss because those examples are usually read as recipes rather than as a source of per-monster data.28282929MonsterFamilyRankJapanese nameSlime BallsSlimeEおにぎりスライムBamboo BadboyNatureEたけのここぞうGroovy GrouseNatureBエンバービートPlatypupBeastGワンワンダックGolemMaterialBゴーレムmud mannequinMaterialGどろにんぎょうjumping jackalBeastEかくとうパンサー30-Slime Balls, Bamboo Badboy and Groovy Grouse were introduced together in July 2026 as monsters making their first appearance in this game. The remaining ten English names carry at most one of the two properties, and the other eighteen Japanese profiles carry no English name at all, which is why the table stops at seven rather than running further. Two near-misses show how thin the margin is: escudogre has a published family and no rank, and well wisher has a published rank and no family.30+Slime Balls, Bamboo Badboy and Groovy Grouse were introduced together in July 2026 as monsters making their first appearance in this game. Square Enix has put out individual profiles for 23 monsters, each giving a family and a rank, and has published official English names for 17 monsters. Those two sets barely overlap, and together they cover a small fraction of a 500-plus roster.35353636A list assembled from that material would be a fragment presented as a catalog, and the obvious way to "finish" it would be to import names and data from earlier games in the series. That does not work here: this series reworks family assignments, rank scales, skill tables and synthesis charts with every entry, so older data is not evidence about this game. A roster will go up when there is a roster to publish.37373838What is confirmed and what is not39394040DetailStatusRoster size of more than 500 speciesConfirmed by Square Enix on several of its own channelsEight familiesConfirmedNames of seven familiesPublished, five of them in EnglishName of the eighth familyNot published in any languageNine ranks running G to XConfirmedRanks G, F, E, D, C, B and AEach shown in a published exampleThe rank between A and XNot namedSizes S and LConfirmedStat tables, skill lists and trait listsNot published for any monster
