Four downloadable content packs launch alongside DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World. They are sold individually and bundled as the DLC 4-ITEM SET, and the set is also folded into the Digital Deluxe Edition described on Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.
One point of precision matters here, because it is easy to get wrong. Storefront add-on lists for this game carry more entries than there are things to buy: alongside the four packs they list the Way of the Wrangler item set and the two purchase bonuses. Those three are attached to a purchase rather than sold on their own. The Way of the Wrangler page states plainly that the set comes only with the Digital Deluxe Edition or with the DLC 4-ITEM SET. So four is the number of content packs, and the separately purchasable items are those four plus the set that bundles them.
The four packs
Pack | Price | Unlock requirement |
|---|---|---|
The Mega Mole Hole | $9.99 / ¥1,320 | Progress until the protagonist learns Zoom |
Monster Marathons | $9.99 / ¥1,320 | Progress until the protagonist learns Zoom |
Metallic Ring | $9.99 / ¥1,320 | Progress until you have cleared the second region |
Scout Run VIP Card | $4.99 / ¥880 | Progress until Scout Run is unlocked |
DLC 4-ITEM SET (all four) | $34.99 / ¥4,840 | As above, per pack |
Downloadable content is digital only and is not sold in physical form. Square Enix also notes that some of the items inside these packs can be obtained by playing the game normally.
One practical caveat for anyone shopping early. As of late August 2026 the packs do not exist as individually priced store entries: Steam lists only the base game and the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Xbox add-on pages render the two edition prices rather than a price for the pack you are looking at. The per-pack figures in the table have not been confirmed against a storefront listing. They have been carried on this page since it was written, and no platform currently publishes an individual price for a pack to check them against, so treat them as provisional rather than as prices you can rely on today. The two edition prices are on every storefront and are solid.
The Mega Mole Hole
A set of special dungeons stocked only with monsters you have befriended at least once before. You filter what appears by rank and family, which turns the dungeon into a targeted search rather than a random encounter table. It is aimed at monsters that are hard to reach the normal way: species that only show up in one place at one time of day, or that can only be produced through Synthesis.
The selector is worded slightly differently on two Square Enix pages, one saying you select the rank or family and the other saying you select the ranks and families. Both are first-party and neither has been corrected.
Monster Marathons
An expedition minigame. You send out a party of monsters and instruct them when to run and when to jump as they make their way through a stage. Rewards scale with how far the party travels and with whether it reaches the destination, and they come in the form of experience points, gold coins and crafting items. Enemy monsters turn up along the way, and the only way past them is well-timed jumps and controlled speed.
Metallic Ring
An exploration item that transforms every enemy monster in the current area into metal monsters or hunter mechs. The metal monsters are specified as metal slimes, liquid metal slimes and metal king slimes. Uses are unlimited but gated: you have to wait 30 in-game minutes between them, and the effect wears off after a while or as soon as you leave the area.
Square Enix added a note in July 2026 clarifying that which monsters the ring produces changes with your progress through the story. The practical effect is that the ring can hand you monsters worth far more experience than the stage you are on would normally offer, whether you use it early or after finishing the main story.
Scout Run VIP Card
An upgrade to the Scout Run, which is a base-game facility rather than something this pack adds. Holding the card gives you a bigger allowance of scouty snacks, more monsters appearing at once, and a shorter wait between uses. How the underlying feature works is on Scouting and Recruitment.
Way of the Wrangler
Way of the Wrangler is an item set rather than a content pack: 1x Necklace of Animation, 10x Beastie Bites and 10x Seeds of Skill. It arrives as the Digital Deluxe purchase bonus and it is also attached to the DLC 4-ITEM SET. It does appear as its own entry in storefront add-on lists, which is misleading: the entry itself states that the set is included only for buyers of the Digital Deluxe Edition or of the DLC 4-ITEM SET, so there is no way to buy it on its own. Its contents and effects are on Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.
