Defilade's developer describes a casualty system in which squads rescue wounded soldiers and return them to battle. Field treatment and medic tents are announced prerelease mechanics.
Wounds and rescue
A badly wounded soldier collapses, calls for a medic and begins bleeding out. A soldier with enough strength can crawl toward cover.
The squad provides covering fire while another soldier runs out and drags the casualty back by the shoulders. A second soldier can walk backward beside them while firing. The wounded soldier can continue firing a pistol during the rescue. Soldiers sometimes throw smoke grenades to conceal the attempt.
Field treatment
Once the casualty is safe, another soldier can patch them up so they can fight again. Medics perform this treatment twice as fast. A soldier becomes weaker each time they collapse, so repeated field recovery has a limit; the developer has not specified a numerical threshold.
Medic tents and stretchers
A medic tent sends stretcher bearers to retrieve soldiers, including soldiers who have died. Two soldiers carry a stretcher. If one bearer is shot, the other drags the stretcher for the rest of the journey.
After treatment in the tent, recovered soldiers limp back to base and are ready to fight again. Medic tents are among the structures covered in Base Building.
Battle recovery and the planned campaign
Medic-tent recovery belongs to the developer-described battle system. Permanent soldier death is a separate goal for the planned campaign in Multiplayer and Campaign. The campaign goal does not establish a permanent-death rule for the announced medic-tent system.
