The Reed Devil, also known as 'The Devil of the Reed Fields,' is a fearsome boss residing on Frozen Soul Mountain. Once a slum-dweller fated to die as an outcast, he donned a mask and rewrote his destiny. Now he terrorizes the citizens of Hernand as a bogeyman of local legend.
Unlike the Staglord's straightforward combat approach, the Reed Devil fights as a short-statured ninja-esque swordsman who strikes quickly before retreating into the surrounding wheat fields.
The Reed Devil specializes in Iaijutsu, traditional Japanese quick-draw sword techniques. He delivers fast slashes, then vanishes into the surrounding reed and wheat fields, making him difficult to track.
Rather than dealing massive single blows, the Reed Devil inflicts death by a thousand cuts. He chips away at player health through numerous quick strikes, requiring sustained aggression to prevent being worn down.
The Reed Devil summons clones and distractions to confuse players. He also conjures wicker totems that must be destroyed, these provide him with advantages if left standing.
His ability to disappear and reappear makes positioning crucial. Players who lose track of him risk being caught by surprise attacks from unexpected angles.
Embrace aggression over defense. Close the gap and keep attacking, passive play allows him to chip away your health. Stay close so when he disappears and reappears, he's easier to locate.
Use your bow with Precision Focus to dispatch wicker totems while dodging his attacks. The slow-motion targeting helps manage multiple targets. This is a boss you must burn through quickly rather than fight cautiously.
The Reed Devil resides in the reed fields of Frozen Soul Mountain, which combines scenic beauty with combat danger. The terrain itself becomes part of the fight as the boss uses it to disappear from view.
Players should familiarize themselves with the battlefield layout to better predict where the Reed Devil might reappear after vanishing.
