The Stag Beetle is a nocturnal insect collectible found in the forests of Pywel and other woodland regions across Crimson Desert. Instantly recognizable by the large deer-antler mandibles that extend from the front of its head, this beetle uses those oversized jaws for wrestling matches against rival males and to attract mates during the breeding season. In the wild it feeds on tree sap, clinging to trunks and fallen logs while it drinks.

Unlike the common Beetle, Longhorn Beetle, and Rhinoceros Beetle, the Stag Beetle only spawns at night. This makes it noticeably rarer than its daytime cousins and means players who are farming dye ingredients during the day will miss it entirely. The combination of nocturnal spawning and specific habitat requirements turns the Stag Beetle into one of the more sought-after common insects for alchemy and dye crafting.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Type | Insect |
Category | Creatures (Animal / Insect) |
Sale Price | 30 Silver |
Spawn Time | Night (most common around midnight) |
Habitat | Forested regions, tree trunks, fallen logs |
Gathering Tool | None required (by hand); an insect net also works |
Stackable | Yes |
Knowledge Entry | Yes, contributes to insect and arthropod knowledge |
Stag Beetles prefer dense woodland where large older trees are clustered with younger saplings. Reliable spawn locations include forests near the Nas River, woods south of the Goldleaf Guildhouse, and the Roberts Estate forest area. Look specifically for a big thick tree surrounded by roughly five smaller trees. That grouping is the visual cue for Stag Beetle territory. Beetles on standing trunks stay put longer than those resting on fallen logs, so scan vertical trees first.

Travel to a forested area at night. Around midnight works best.
Scan tree trunks and groups of trees, looking for the beetle's silhouette.
Approach slowly. Do not sprint within close range, or the beetle will fly off.
When the gather prompt appears, hold interact to catch it.
Collect the Stag Beetle into your inventory.
The insects are skittish and will fly straight upward if startled, so patience matters. You can still sprint at a distance, but slow your pace once you close in.
Use | Details |
|---|---|
Dye Crafting | One of four beetle types used to control the shade of crafted dyes. Flowers set the base color; the combination of Beetle, Longhorn Beetle, Stag Beetle, and Rhinoceros Beetle determines the final tone. |
Alchemy | Reagent used at cauldron stations when brewing elixirs and utility potions |
Vendor Sale | Sells to general merchants for 30 Silver per unit |
Knowledge | Catching or encountering the beetle unlocks its Knowledge entry, progressing the insect and arthropod collection challenge |
The Stag Beetle appears in the Creatures category of the Knowledge System, specifically under insects and arthropods. Collecting it contributes toward the Tiny Citizens of Grasslands Life Challenge, which requires acquiring all 76 insect and arthropod Knowledge entries. The challenge is unlocked by picking up a Sealed Abyss Artifact in Pailune, at the intersection directly north of Beast Hunter's Camp. Knowledge can also be gained by viewing the Stag Beetle in shop inventories, not only by catching one in the wild.

Stag Beetles are strictly nocturnal in practical terms, so rest at campfires to skip to night before farming runs.
Travel with a mount between tree clusters and dismount before the final approach. Mounts do not spook beetles the same way sprinting does.
If a beetle flies up when you approach, wait a minute and scan the same tree again. Others often land on the same trunks.
Stack up at least a dozen Stag Beetles before returning to a cauldron so you can experiment with dye shades in bulk.
Pair beetle farming with flower gathering in the same forest so both dye components are collected on a single trip.
Do not waste these on early vendor sales. The 30 Silver payout is low compared to how much dye and alchemy value a single beetle provides.
