Initial version with location, cost, unlocked recipes, and tips
Shields of the World, Vol. I is a crafting manual in Crimson Desert that unlocks recipes for basic and intermediate shields at any blacksmith. Shields are paired with one-handed weapons and provide a defensive option during combat, allowing players to block incoming attacks and reduce damage taken.
This is the first volume in the shield crafting manual series. It covers standard-sized shields and large shields suitable for the early and mid portions of the game.
Location: Bought at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand.
Cost: 50 Copper.
The manual is available for purchase directly from the equipment vendor in Calphade. No stealing is required. Visit the shop in the market area and look for the crafting book among the available items.
After reading this manual, the following shields become available for crafting:
Shield | Type | Defense | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
Bekker Shield | Shield | 2 | Timber x10, Fine Timber x5 |
Balton Shield | Shield | 2 | Timber x10, Fine Timber x5 |
Flame Knight's Shield | Shield | 3 | Iron Ore x7, Copper Ore x2 |
City Guard's Shield | Shield | 3 | Iron Ore x7, Copper Ore x2 |
Eastern Wanderer's Shield | Shield | 3 | Iron Ore x7, Copper Ore x2 |
Bekker Large Shield | Large Shield | 4 | Timber x20, Fine Timber x5 |
Balton Large Shield | Large Shield | 4 | Timber x20, Fine Timber x5 |
Standard shields are lighter and allow faster guard recovery, while large shields absorb more damage per block but slow down your movement speed. Choose based on your combat playstyle.
At 50 Copper, this is one of the cheapest equipment crafting manuals in the game. Pick it up as soon as you reach Calphade.
Pair shields with rapiers or one-handed swords for a balanced offense and defense approach.
Bekker Shield and Balton Shield are the cheapest to craft (Timber-based). Useful for early game when Iron Ore is scarce.
Large shields work best against heavy-hitting bosses where you need sustained blocking.
