Rising Torrent is an armor-slotted Abyss Gear that lives on the boots and triggers off a successful Dodge. After dodging, the gear spawns a large water pillar underneath the enemy that attacked you. The pillar launches the target into the air, and a second stage of damage hits when the enemy drops back to the ground. The community video originally cut this gear from the tier list and added it back after a viewer comment pointed out the omission. It lands in A tier on the Best Abyss Gears Guide once the math is in, which is more than most players expect from a defensive proc.
The two-stage launch design is what gives Rising Torrent its damage ceiling. The pillar itself does meaningful damage, the launch creates an opening for follow-up attacks, and the impact damage when the enemy lands compounds the total payoff. The catch is that the pillar projects out to where the attacking enemy is rather than detonating at the player's feet, so the pillar can miss if the target moves between the dodge and the proc resolution.
Rising Torrent triggers when you dodge an incoming attack while wearing the boots that carry the gear. The pillar then targets the enemy that swung at you. There is no perfect-timing requirement and no parry frame to hit. It is the same kind of forgiving dodge proc as Parting Gift, which makes the trigger condition trivially easy to satisfy in normal combat. The harder part is making sure the targeted enemy stays inside the pillar's footprint for the proc to actually connect.
Damage is the gear's strong suit. The water pillar's first hit alone is sizable, and the second hit from the airborne enemy slamming back to the ground stacks more damage on top. Against single targets that hold position the cumulative damage is very strong, putting the gear right in the middle of A tier. Against fast-moving or strafing enemies the pillar can clip past them entirely, which is the main reason Rising Torrent ranks just below Parting Gift rather than at the same level.
A community ranking video titled All Abyss Gears Tier List (Best to Worst Ranked) scores every Abyss Gear out of 30 across three categories: damage, usability, and utility. Each category is worth 10 points, and the totals are bucketed so that 25 to 30 is S tier, 20 to 24 is A tier, 15 to 19 is B tier, 10 to 14 is C tier, 5 to 9 is D tier, and anything below that lands in F tier. Treat the numbers below as one experienced player's testing rather than a hard rulebook, but the overall ranking lines up with what most Best Abyss Gears Guide tier lists are converging on.
Overall Score: 21/30
Damage: 8/10
Usability: 6/10
Utility: 7/10
Community Tier: A Tier
A tier covers gears that perform well in almost every build. They are not quite the standout picks of the whole list, but they pull their weight and rarely feel like dead slots.
Surprising damage with a satisfying air-juggle payoff. Sits a clear tier below Parting Gift because the pillar can miss the moving target, but Rising Torrent is still firmly an A tier pick that any boots-flexible build can slot in confidently.
Proc Reminder: Triggers from a dodge while wearing the boots. The pillar projects toward the attacking enemy, so it can miss if the target moves between dodge and proc resolution.
Run Rising Torrent on builds that already commit to the launched-target playstyle, where the airborne window matters. Builds that prefer flat-ground burst should default to Parting Gift instead. Both gears comfortably outclass Slashing Reeds in the boots slot.
Rising Torrent is the situational alternative to Parting Gift on the boots slot. Pick it when you want an air-juggle setup or when a build benefits from the second-stage impact damage. Avoid it on boss fights where the boss strafes constantly through dodges, because the pillar will miss too often to justify the slot. For most general-purpose builds Parting Gift remains the safer pick, but Rising Torrent is a perfectly defensible second choice and a clear upgrade over Slashing Reeds.
