Overview

The Rattan Shield is a small Shield in Crimson Desert obtained as a quest reward. It provides DEF 5 alongside Movement Speed Lv.2 and two core slots, making it a capable defensive option for players in the early-to-mid portions of the game. As a guaranteed quest reward, it is one of the most accessible mobility shields available.

How to Obtain

The Rattan Shield is obtained as a reward for completing the Village of the Sick quest. This quest is part of the Hernand Requests and Local Politics faction quest line, available in the Hernand region.

During the quest, players must hand over Satintail Root and activate a floodgate to help the ailing village. After completing all objectives, the Rattan Shield is awarded automatically.

The Rattan Shield cannot be purchased from any known merchant and is exclusively obtained through quest completion. No crafting recipe exists for this item.

Core Slots

The two core slots allow customization with Abyss Cores to tailor the shield's bonuses to specific combat situations or builds. Players might consider slotting defensive cores for additional survivability or utility cores that complement the shield's mobility theme. Cores can be embedded or removed through a witch NPC at no cost, making experimentation easy.

The Sydmon Round Shield offers identical stats (DEF 5, Movement Speed Lv.2, 2 core slots) but is found as random world loot, so its acquisition is less reliable.

Usage Notes

At DEF 5, the Rattan Shield provides solid protection for a mobility shield. It strikes a good balance between defense and speed, making it a reliable choice throughout the mid-game chapters.

The Movement Speed Lv.2 bonus stacks with speed bonuses from other equipment, supporting agility-focused builds. Pairing the Rattan Shield with a fast One-Handed Weapon like the Shackle of Might creates a mobile, aggressive playstyle built around quick strikes and repositioning.

Players can use the shield to block incoming attacks or perform a Shield Bash to shove enemies during combat, creating space to reposition or heal. The block is especially useful against enemies whose attacks would otherwise stagger or knock down Kliff.

Like all shields, the Rattan Shield supports up to 10 levels of Refinement at a blacksmith. Each refinement level increases the base defense, making the shield more durable for late-game encounters while preserving its speed advantage.

With a sell price of 3.25 Silver Coins, the Rattan Shield has modest resale value. Players who have found a stronger shield may choose to sell it, though keeping it as a backup mobility option is also reasonable.
