Progression System

Character growth in Vindictus: Defying Fate is account-based, not per-character. When your account reaches level 4, all four playable characters are at level 4 with the same base stat increases. This means you don't need to grind each character from scratch — leveling one benefits all of them. XP comes from story progression, combat encounters, and boss kills.
Characters can be switched at any campsite. Since levels and Ability Points are shared, swapping from Lann to Karok mid-session doesn't mean starting over at a lower power level. You lose nothing by experimenting.
The ability system splits into two categories:
Shared Abilities: Utility and survivability upgrades that apply to all characters. Increased Flovian Flask capacity, higher base stats, improved item usage. These are the foundation that every character benefits from.
Exclusive Abilities: Character-specific enhancements that improve Active Skills and combat style. Each character has their own exclusive tree that deepens their particular strengths — Lann gets faster dodges, Fiona gets stronger counters, and so on.
Abilities are unlocked sequentially through skill trees. Once purchased, they are permanent — there is no respec. Ability Points are stored at the account level, so points earned while playing one character can be spent on another character's exclusive tree.
Points come from multiple sources: hidden areas contain them as exploration rewards, chests can contain them, and boss fights award them. Finding all the hidden Ability Points in a region requires thorough exploration.
Weapons are obtained through a crafting system centered on the blacksmith Graham in Colhen. The workflow:
Defeat bosses or complete Special Missions to obtain Blueprints.
Bring the Blueprint and required materials (Hanner currency, Charcoal, Findium, etc.) to Graham.
Craft the weapon. Once a Blueprint is unlocked, it's available to all characters on the same account.
Weapons can be enhanced multiple times, with each enhancement increasing their Weapon Level. Higher Weapon Level boosts attack power, critical rate, and precision stats. Enhancement also costs Hanner plus materials gathered from exploration or mission rewards. Eventually, enhancement hits a hard cap per weapon, and players must craft entirely new weapons from higher-tier blueprints to continue progressing.
Weapons are class-exclusive. Lann uses twin swords, Fiona uses a longsword and shield, Karok uses battle pillars, and Delia uses bastard swords. Each weapon type has its own blueprint progression.
The inventory is divided into three categories: Combat Items (flasks and consumables), Materials (crafting resources), and Valuables (items that exist only to be sold for Hanner). Keeping materials organized matters because weapon crafting and enhancement consume them regularly.
