Patch 1.00.04 is a narrow PlayStation-only hotfix that shipped hours after Patch 1.00.03 went live. It addressed a single but serious bug affecting players who used the character-switch feature between Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka during story sections that required swapping protagonists.
Pearl Abyss prioritized the hotfix for PlayStation because the issue was specific to that platform's build of the character switch system. Other platforms either did not exhibit the issue or had fixes already rolled into their next queued patch build. The fix was distributed through the normal PlayStation update channel and applied automatically on next launch.
Switching from another playable character back to Kliff prevented certain interactions and actions from being performed properly. Players could find themselves locked out of NPC dialogue, looting, or ability activation after swapping from Damiane or Oongka back to Kliff. The patch restored proper input handling for all interactions after a character switch.
The bug was most visible in combat-heavy sequences where players cycled between characters to use specific skill sets, then returned to Kliff expecting full functionality. Prior to the hotfix, the only reliable workaround was to load the most recent save, which was disruptive during long missions. Players who encountered the bug during the Private Storage rollout from Patch 1.00.03 had to log out completely to restore input handling.
Internally the issue was traced to the character-switch pipeline failing to reset input-state flags for Kliff when the swap completed from a non-Kliff state. Once the flags remained stale, the interaction system continued to treat Kliff as the non-active character and rejected interaction prompts until the game was reloaded.

This hotfix shipped only on PlayStation 5. PC and Xbox builds did not exhibit the issue or rolled similar fixes into their next full patch build. Players who were already on 1.00.03 on PlayStation 5 received the hotfix automatically the next time the console checked for Crimson Desert updates.
Although Patch 1.00.04 addressed only a single issue, the impact was disproportionate to its size. Character switching is used heavily during certain main-quest segments where Damiane or Oongka's abilities are the most efficient solution to puzzles, pursuit sequences, or burst-damage boss phases. A bug that silently disabled Kliff's interactions after returning from those segments stalled players at the exact points where the main story expected them to swap back and continue.
Pearl Abyss's decision to ship a single-issue hotfix within the same day as the larger 1.00.03 patch reflected the company's initial cadence during the post-launch window, which prioritized rapid response to platform-specific issues over bundling fixes into a later consolidated patch.
