Updated with official Pearl Abyss quote and context about Black Desert Online comparison
Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert will launch with no microtransactions and no cash shop. The studio explicitly stated: "This is a premium experience that you buy." The only purchasable content consists of pre-order cosmetic bonuses included with the game's various editions.
No in-game store: There is no cash shop, gem shop, or premium currency system.
No loot boxes: No randomized paid item packs or gacha mechanics.
No pay-to-win: All gameplay-relevant items are obtained through in-game activities.
No battle pass: No seasonal paid progression tracks.
Full game at launch: The $69.99 Standard Edition includes the complete game experience.
This stance is notable because Pearl Abyss's previous game, Black Desert Online, is a free-to-play MMO known for its extensive cash shop and optional purchases. Some players expressed concern that Crimson Desert might adopt a similar monetization model. Pearl Abyss addressed these concerns directly by positioning Crimson Desert as a fundamentally different product: a premium single-player game with a one-time purchase price.
The only items that could be considered "extra" content are the cosmetic bonuses included with the Deluxe Edition (Balgran Shield, Kairos Plate Set, Exclaire Horse Tack Set) and Collector's Edition (additional weapons and horse equipment from the Ultimate Pack). These are included with the edition purchase and are not sold separately. For full details, see Pricing and Editions.
Pearl Abyss has discussed post-launch content plans but has not announced any paid DLC or expansion pricing at this time. The studio's focus at launch is delivering the complete base game experience.
