This quest becomes available as part of the House Marshall faction quest line. You can also trigger it by simply wandering into the circus area. The quest is tied to the Mysterious Messenger faction quest, which directs you to the circus. If you arrive too early, use the wait feature to advance time to nightfall, as the encounter only triggers at night.
Follow the quest marker to the circus grounds in the Demeniss area. The circus ambushes you when you arrive at the correct time (night). This triggers a two-phase boss fight against a large mechanical construct.
During the first phase, you are told that you need to climb onto the boss's shoulders, cling to them, and perform a plunge stab (similar to attacking a Stoneback Crab's weak points). However, the numerous projectiles, AoE effects, and small robots on the ground make it very difficult to get a clean climb in.
The most reliable strategy for Phase 1 is to use Nature's Snare (specifically with the Nature's Retribution upgrade) to capture all incoming projectiles and robots, then send them back at the boss. This deals significant damage and builds stun. Once the boss is stunned, you can climb his arm, reach the shoulder, and perform the plunge R2 attack to expose the weak point. Attack the exposed shoulder to deal heavy damage and transition into Phase 2.
Phase 2 is intended to involve climbing to the boss's head and breaking the glass there. However, this mechanic is widely reported as not working as intended. The boss's design physically prevents clinging to the head, and constant interruptions make the intended approach frustrating. The community consensus is to ignore the climbing mechanic in Phase 2 entirely.
Instead, continue using Nature's Snare with the reflect upgrade to deal damage from range. Use the stun windows to attack the head directly with melee attacks. Repeat this process until the boss is defeated. It is slower than the intended method, but far more reliable.
Reward | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Key Item | Provides a massive amount of camp wood stock when used | |
Cloak | A cloak for Damiane to wear | |
Headgear | Equippable hat with the Fanfire ability; activating it opens the top and shoots fireworks with a fun sound effect (20-second cooldown) | |
Skill Point | Passive | One additional skill point for your build |
Nature's Snare with Nature's Retribution is strongly recommended for this fight. It trivializes the projectile spam.
If you arrive at the circus during daytime, use the wait function to skip to nighttime.
The Tech Hat is a cosmetic-style reward that is purely fun. The Fanfire ability shoots fireworks and makes noise, but deals no combat damage.
Do not waste time trying to climb the head in Phase 2. The snare reflect strategy is more consistent.
