macOS Version

Added MetalFX technology details (Upscaling, Frame Generation, Denoiser), updated platform context
Crimson Desert launches on macOS on March 19, 2026, alongside its PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC releases. This makes Crimson Desert a rare AAA title to receive a day-one Mac release. The BlackSpace Engine has been ported to Apple's Metal graphics API, with Pearl Abyss leveraging several Apple-specific rendering technologies for the port.
The macOS version uses three Apple-specific rendering technologies to achieve competitive performance on Apple Silicon hardware:
Technology | Function |
|---|---|
MetalFX Upscaling | Renders the game at a lower internal resolution and uses AI-driven upscaling to produce a higher-quality output image. Similar in concept to DLSS and FSR on PC. |
MetalFX Frame Generation | Generates intermediate frames between rendered frames to increase perceived smoothness and frame rate. |
MetalFX Denoiser | Cleans up noise from ray-traced effects (global illumination and reflections), producing cleaner lighting at lower computational cost. |
The macOS version requires Apple Silicon (M1 chip or newer). Intel-based Macs are not supported. Specific minimum and recommended Mac configurations have not been published separately by Pearl Abyss. Given the game's 135 GB storage requirement on PC and the demanding nature of the BlackSpace Engine, users should expect similar storage needs on Mac.
The macOS version launches with the same content as all other platforms. It receives the same Day 1 patch and runs the same game version. The storefront availability mirrors PC: both Steam and Epic Games Store offer the Mac version. Cross-platform play is not applicable since Crimson Desert is a single-player game (the planned Another Journey multiplayer mode, if it arrives, has not had Mac-specific details confirmed).
Day-one Mac launches for major AAA open-world games remain uncommon. The Mac gaming ecosystem has grown since Apple Silicon's introduction, with Apple investing in Metal 3, MetalFX, and developer tools. Crimson Desert joining the Mac launch lineup reflects Pearl Abyss's broad platform strategy and the growing viability of Apple Silicon for demanding games.
