Initial article on Long-Haired Cat pet with variants, trust items, equipment, taming guide, and tips

The Long-Haired Cat is a tameable feline companion in Crimson Desert, distinguished by its long, fluffy coat. It belongs to the Cat family and can be found roaming settlements and wilderness areas throughout Pywel. Like all cats in the game, the Long-Haired Cat can be tamed through the pet taming system by building trust to 100. Once registered, it follows the player as a permanent pet companion and automatically collects loot from defeated enemies and resources from gathering nodes.
The Long-Haired Cat's most notable feature is its luxurious fur, which sets it apart from the shorter-coated cat breeds such as the Short-Haired Cat and Slim Cat. It comes in multiple color variations and can be equipped with pet armor and cosmetic outfits. Its favorite food is Mackerel, which provides the highest trust gain per feeding among standard items.

The Long-Haired Cat comes in three known coat color variations. Each time the spawn location resets, the game may produce a cat with a different appearance. All variations share identical stats and abilities; the difference is purely cosmetic. Players who want a specific coat color can leave the area and return until the desired variation appears.
Image | Variant | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Default | The standard Long-Haired Cat with a natural mixed coat. This is the most commonly encountered variant. |
| White | A pristine white-coated Long-Haired Cat. Its bright fur makes it easy to spot in darker environments. |
| Black | A sleek black Long-Haired Cat with dark fur throughout. This variant blends in well with nighttime surroundings. |
Taming a Long-Haired Cat follows the same process as all other cat breeds in Crimson Desert. You need to raise its trust from 0 to 100 using a combination of petting and feeding. Because of the daily cap on trust-building actions, the process takes a minimum of two in-game days.
Find and pick up the cat. Approach the Long-Haired Cat and hold the interaction button to pick it up. Unlike dogs, cats must be carried before you can pet them.
Pet it five times. While holding the cat, press the pet button five times. Each pet grants +5 trust, bringing your total to 25. This is the daily petting cap.
Feed the cat. Open your inventory and discard food items near the cat. Mackerel is the best choice, granting +35 trust per piece. If Mackerel is unavailable, Dried Fish, Bird Meat, Fish, Fruit, or Dairy Products each grant +10 trust. Feed up to three times to reach the daily feeding cap of +30 trust (or +35 with a single Mackerel as the first feed). With Mackerel, you can reach 60 trust on Day 1 (25 petting + 35 Mackerel).
Wait for the daily reset. Once you have reached the daily cap, wait until midnight (the start of a new in-game day) to continue. Pick the cat up and hold it so it does not wander away or despawn.
Pet it five more times. After midnight, the daily petting counter resets. Pet the cat five times for +25 trust.
Feed until trust reaches 100. Discard additional food items near the cat until its trust reaches 100. The amount needed depends on what you fed on Day 1.
Register the cat. At 100 trust, a new interaction prompt appears. Hold the button and select "Take In" to permanently register the Long-Haired Cat as your pet.
Action | Trust Gained | Running Total | Day |
|---|---|---|---|
Pet x5 | +25 | 25 | Day 1 |
Feed Dried Fish x3 | +30 | 55 | Day 1 |
(Daily cap reached) | - | 55 | Day 1 |
Pet x5 (after midnight) | +25 | 80 | Day 2 |
Feed Dried Fish x2 | +20 | 100 | Day 2 |
Take In | - | 100 (Registered) | Day 2 |
The Long-Haired Cat accepts a wide variety of food items to build trust. Items are grouped by category, with each category granting a specific amount of trust per feeding. The favorite food, Mackerel, grants the most trust of any standard item at +35 per piece. Legendary Fish grant the highest trust overall at +100, but they are extremely rare.
Item / Category | Trust per Feed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Mackerel (Favorite) | +35 | Highest trust among common items. Easy to obtain through fishing. |
Legendary Fish | +100 | Includes Golden Tench, Coelacanth, Golden Carp, Clockwork Fish, Golden Coelacanth, and Hexe Earthen Fish. Very rare catches. |
Field Iron Griddle Recipes | +20 | Includes Grilled Meat, Grilled Fish, Grilled Bird Meat, Salt-Roasted Fish, Toasted Grains, Smoked Eggs, Meat Skewers, Braised Meat, Fish Skewers, and all Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants. |
Field Cooking Pot Recipes | +20 | Includes Clear Soup, Fish Porridge, Vegetable Porridge, Fruit Punch, Longhorn Soup, Meat Soup, Seafood Soup, Fishball Soup, Grain Soup, Steamed Eggs, Braised Ribs, and all Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants. |
Dried Fish | +10 | Cheap and readily available from merchants. A reliable fallback option. |
Fish (Raw) | +10 | Any caught fish works, including Mackerel, Salmon, Trout, Carp, Bass, Catfish, and many others. |
Bird Meat | +10 | Includes Lean Bird Meat and standard Bird Meat, obtained by hunting birds. |
Fruit | +10 | Includes Apple, Grape, Orange, Peach, Tomato, Blueberry, Strawberry, Pear, Fig, Pineapple, and others. |
Dairy Products | +10 | Includes Milk and Cheese. |
The daily feeding cap limits total trust gained from food to approximately +30 per day (three feedings at +10 each). However, feeding Mackerel as the first item grants +35 in a single feeding, which can exceed the +30 cap from standard items. Using Mackerel on both days is the fastest way to reach 100 trust.
The Long-Haired Cat can be equipped with pet armor and cosmetic outfits. Equipment is divided into two slots: Pet Helm and Pet Outfit. These items change the cat's appearance and can be obtained from various merchants and crafting sources throughout Pywel.
Equipment | Slot | Description |
|---|---|---|
Cat Plate Helm | Pet Helm | A small metal helm designed for cats. Provides a knightly look. |
Cat Plate Armor | Pet Outfit | Miniature plate armor that covers the cat's body. Matches the Cat Plate Helm. |
Peddler Cat Hat | Pet Helm | A merchant-style hat that gives the cat a traveling trader appearance. |
Peddler Cat Outfit | Pet Outfit | A peddler's outfit that pairs with the Peddler Cat Hat for a complete merchant look. |
Uniform Cat Hat | Pet Helm | A formal uniform cap for cats. Part of the Uniform set. |
Uniform Cat Outfit | Pet Outfit | A formal uniform that pairs with the Uniform Cat Hat. |
Pet equipment is purely cosmetic and does not affect the cat's stats or abilities. Pets are invulnerable during combat, so armor provides no defensive benefit. Players can mix and match helms and outfits from different sets.
Once registered, the Long-Haired Cat provides the same passive benefits as all other pet breeds in Crimson Desert. Only one pet can be actively summoned at a time, but players can register up to 30 pets total.
Ability | Description |
|---|---|
Auto-Loot (Combat) | Automatically picks up loot dropped by defeated enemies, including equipment, materials, and consumables. |
Resource Pickup (Harvesting) | Collects dropped resources when the player harvests ores, chops trees, or gathers herbs. Saves time during gathering runs. |
Destructible Object Pickup | Gathers items from destructible objects and environmental containers the player breaks. |
Exploration Companion | Follows the player across all regions of Pywel while summoned. |
Pets pick up everything without a loot filter, so your inventory can fill up quickly with low-value items. Manage your inventory regularly when exploring with a summoned pet.
Mackerel is the best food for taming the Long-Haired Cat. If you fish near any river or coast, you can usually catch several. Stock up before starting the taming process.
Carry the cat into a building to prevent it from wandering off or despawning while you wait for the daily trust reset. Put the cat down before opening doors, then pick it up again on the other side.
Drop food one piece at a time. If you discard multiple items at once, the cat may only eat one. Wait for it to finish eating before dropping the next piece.
Craft Companionship enchants on Abyss gear to increase trust gain speed with pets. The Solidarity enchant increases trust gain with all NPCs and animals, which also helps.
If the registration prompt does not appear after reaching 100 trust, try switching items or pulling out your lantern. Some players report this triggers the "Take In" prompt to appear.
To get a specific coat color, leave the spawn area and return until the desired variation appears. Walk far enough to leave render distance, then come back for a fresh spawn.
You can skip the overnight wait by resting at a camp or using time-skip mechanics if available. This significantly speeds up the two-day taming process.
