Kaylock the Hornsplitter is a named boss encountered in Chapter 2 of Crimson Desert, fought during the liberation of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild. A frail and pale goblin in appearance, Kaylock became dangerous only after coming into contact with an Abyss Artifact. The artifact transformed him from a bullied outcast into a fear-driven tyrant who ruled the local merchants through extortion, intimidation, and forced labor.
Kaylock was bullied as a child and grew up without a clear moral compass. When an Abyss Artifact fell into his possession, the power changed him in the same way the abyss empowers others across Pywell. With his new strength he turned on those around him rather than protecting them, colluding with corrupt officials and bandits to extract tribute from merchants and guild members.
His grip on the Goldleaf Merchant Guild was built entirely on fear. He forced members of the guild into terrible misdeeds on his behalf, threatening their families and livelihoods if they refused. The moment he was weakened in combat, the people who had been forced to serve him turned on him themselves, an early sign in the main story that the artifact-empowered tyrants of Pywell often have no real loyalty behind them.
Kaylock appears during the Chapter 2 arc after Cliff begins assisting the merchants of the Goldleaf Trading Post. Liberating the guild from his control is one of the early demonstrations in the game that abyssal artifacts can corrupt ordinary people into dangerous local warlords. The fight introduces players to the theme that runs through the rest of the main story: those who hold Abyss Artifacts without humility tend to abuse the power, and the same path is offered to Cliff at every step.
After Kaylock is defeated in combat, an in-game cinematic shows his former followers finishing him off the moment he is too weak to resist. Cliff does not personally land the killing blow. The scene closes out the Goldleaf Merchant Guild arc and clears the way for the Chapter 3 shift toward Howling Hill and the gathering of the remaining Grey Mains.

Kaylock is a small-scale parallel of the larger antagonists Cliff faces later. Like Caliburn and other major foes, he is a person empowered by the abyss who uses that power for personal dominance. The difference is scale: Kaylock rules a single guild, while later villains target whole regions of Pywell. The arc also establishes Cliff's pattern of taking on local tyrants on behalf of communities that cannot fight back, a pattern repeated with the Reed Devil in Chapter 3 and the Demonician noble houses in Chapter 8.
