Added prerequisites, melon sourcing, and Sotdae placement detail for 1.05 Hyacinth Macaw
Hyacinth Macaw is a legendary parrot Pets tame in Crimson Desert added in Patch 1.05.00 on May 2, 2026. It spawns at Giant's Yard Outpost in the Redtree Forest near the Red River, and is tamed by feeding it Desert Melons through the Sotdae of Bond. The Hyacinth Macaw is one of two legendary bird pets shipped together in 1.05; the other is the Iron Eagle.

The Hyacinth Macaw spawns at Giant's Yard Outpost, a camp in the Redtree Forest along the Tashkalp boundary near the Red River, east of the central Crimson Desert region. Travel via the nearest fast-travel waypoint and ride east toward the cliff lines that frame the outpost. The bird perches on the cliffs and circles the outpost approach during the day, making it easier to spot than its bird-roster entry suggests.
The Giant's Yard Outpost sits in the far east of Pywel, west of the Red River, and south of the Redtree Forest. On the world map, look for the camp icon directly north of the Red River fast-travel waypoint and east of the Demetrius landmark. The cliff line runs along the eastern edge of the camp, facing the river.
Before the Hyacinth Macaw can be tamed, two preparations make the run go smoothly:
Liberate Giant's Yard Outpost. The camp is occupied by the Wolf Trackers faction. Clearing the camp first removes hostile patrols around the cliff perches, which otherwise scare the bird off mid-feed and reset its trust gain.
Carry the Sotdae of Bond. The bird feeder is awarded by completing Authorized Access in the Trembling Woods faction questline. If the feeder is missing from the inventory but the questline is finished, check the in-game mail or speak to Arkin in Pororin Village to claim it.
Stockpile 10 to 15 Desert Melons. Seven melons clear the +100 Trust threshold (15 Trust per melon, 105 total), but a buffer of three to eight extra melons protects against three failure modes: the bird repositions during a feed, a smaller bird (sparrow, finch) lands first and steals melons from the feeder, or the run is reset by reloading a save.
Save before placing the feeder. Quick-saving on the cliff right before deploying the Sotdae of Bond is the cleanest insurance. If smaller birds clear out the melons before the Macaw arrives, reload the save instead of grinding more melons.
Have the Sotdae of Bond in your inventory. The feeder is awarded by completing Authorized Access in the Trembling Woods faction questline given by Arkin in Pororin Village. Players who finished that quest before Patch 1.04.00 received the Sotdae automatically.
Stockpile 7 Desert Melons. Desert Melons are sold by Grocers and other vendors in Tomasso and the broader Crimson Desert region. Each Melon raises Trust by 15, so 7 Melons total +105 Trust, which clears the +100 threshold with a small margin.
Travel to Giant's Yard Outpost in the Redtree Forest, along the Tashkalp boundary near the Red River.
Place the Sotdae of Bond on the cliff lines beside the outpost camp. The cliff perch is the standard flight path the Macaw uses, so a flat cliff-top placement attracts the bird.
Load the feeder with the 7 Desert Melons.
Stand back and let the Macaw approach. Crouching behind cover or pulling back to a comfortable distance keeps the bird from veering off. Each successful feed raises Trust by 15.
After 7 feeds, Trust crosses +100. Approach and select Take In to register the Hyacinth Macaw as a pet.
Desert Melons are the Hyacinth Macaw's preferred food. Each melon raises Trust by 15. Three reliable sources keep a 10 to 15 melon stockpile sustainable:
Source | Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Tomasso Grocer | Buy with Coppers | Stock typically 5 to 7 melons per restock, 72 Coppers each. Located in the southeast corner of Tomasso, the main town just south of Tashkalp. Restock cycles in roughly real-time minutes, so a second pass after running another errand often refills the shelf. |
Redsand Farm | Steal with the Kuku Gardening Pack | Located in Tashkalp Territory. Three crop patches grow rotating produce; one patch typically holds Desert Melons. Riding through the patch with the Kuku Gardening Pack equipped collects melons without alerting the farmhands. Be aware this is theft and may trigger a bounty if a guard catches the run. |
Other Vendors | Buy with Coppers | A handful of grocers and food merchants in the broader Crimson Desert region also stock Desert Melons in small quantities. Stock is rolled per merchant, so checking two or three nearby vendors usually clears a 10 melon shopping target in one trip. |
Insects, Grains, and other Fruits also contribute to the Hyacinth Macaw's Trust meter, but each grants less than 15 Trust per item. Desert Melons remain the fastest path to the +100 threshold.
From the fast-travel waypoint at the Red River, ride north until the Giant's Yard Outpost camp is in view. Enter the camp from the south. Move past the central wooden tower to the northeast corner of the camp; a cliff line runs along the right side of the tower. Place the Sotdae of Bond on a flat stretch of the cliff with open sky above it. Several spots along the cliff work, so a second placement attempt one or two camera-lengths further along the same ridge is fine if the first spot is too narrow.
Two placement details matter for catch rate. First, the Sotdae must sit on a flat surface. The feeder will refuse to deploy on a steep slope, and birds avoid feeders that are partially clipped through terrain. Second, keep the feeder out of dense canopy. Inside the camp under the wooden tower or below the tree cover near the cliff edge, the Macaw rarely commits to landing.
After loading the feeder with Desert Melons, retreat about ten paces and crouch behind cover. The bird usually approaches within three to four minutes once the cliff is clear, although a small number of attempts have reported wait times of fifteen to twenty minutes when other birds occupy the airspace. If a smaller bird lands first and starts eating, a quick save reload is faster than grinding more melons.
There is a known ordering issue between the two 1.05 legendary birds. Taming the Iron Eagle at Hawkstone Ruins before the Hyacinth Macaw can prevent the Macaw from spawning at Giant's Yard Outpost. The reverse order (Macaw first, Eagle second) has been confirmed to work without issue. Pearl Abyss acknowledged the issue but did not patch it in Patch 1.05.01, so the recommended order at the time of writing is to tame the Macaw first.
Once registered, the Hyacinth Macaw behaves like other registered bird pets: summon and dismiss from the pets tab, follow the player in flight, and pick up loot from the ground while flying. Its visible difference is the deep-blue plumage and the unusually large wingspan compared to the standard parrot and macaw entries in the bird pet roster. It is one of the two legendary pets in the bird category alongside the Phoenix and the Iron Eagle.
Buy melons in bulk. Tomasso Grocers stock Desert Melons reliably; bulk-buying 10-12 melons covers a clean 7-feed run with a few in reserve in case a feed misses or the bird repositions.
Cliff-top placement matters. The Sotdae works best on a flat cliff-top with open sky around it. Inside the outpost or under tree cover, the bird is less likely to land.
Macaw before Eagle. Always tame the Macaw before the Iron Eagle if you want both legendary birds.
Keep your distance. Birds in this game flee when the player is too close. Crouch behind cover or pull back to a comfortable distance once the feeder is loaded.
