Half Moon Slash is a Combo Attacks Abyss Gear that releases a half-circle slash carrying fire damage. Mechanically it sits in the same family as Crescent Moon Slash, trading the neutral damage profile for fire scaling. The arc is a touch tighter and the visual is bigger, but the practical damage and proc behavior land in similar territory. The community ranks it B tier on the Best Abyss Gears Guide.
Because the gear deals fire damage, builds that already invest in fire scaling get more out of it than neutral builds. If you already run fire-flavored gear or weapons that burn enemies, Half Moon Slash slots in cleanly. If your build is built around a non-fire element, a same-element Combo Attack proc will usually outperform it.
Half Moon Slash triggers as a normal Combo Attack proc inside a swing string, with the same proc rules as Wind Slash and the rest of the moon-themed Combo Attacks. There is no charge or aim phase, no parry requirement, and the gear fires automatically at the configured combo point during a normal weapon chain.
Per-hit damage is decent but unremarkable on its own, which is the same complaint the community levels at Crescent Moon Slash. The fire variant gives Half Moon Slash a slight edge in fire-scaling builds and against enemies that have a fire weakness, but neutral encounters cap the gear at solid B tier numbers. The damage climbs noticeably when the gear is slotted into a moon-themed build that stacks multiple moon slashes together, which is the same pattern as its sibling gears.
A community ranking video titled All Abyss Gears Tier List (Best to Worst Ranked) scores every Abyss Gear out of 30 across three categories: damage, usability, and utility. Each category is worth 10 points, and the totals are bucketed so that 25 to 30 is S tier, 20 to 24 is A tier, 15 to 19 is B tier, 10 to 14 is C tier, 5 to 9 is D tier, and anything below that lands in F tier. Treat the numbers below as one experienced player's testing rather than a hard rulebook, but the overall ranking lines up with what most Best Abyss Gears Guide tier lists are converging on.
Overall Score: 17/30
Damage: 5/10
Usability: 5/10
Utility: 7/10
Community Tier: B Tier
B tier covers gears that work, but only in specific situations or builds. Most of the time you can do better, yet they are not actively bad to slot in if a build leans into their niche.
The fire-damage variant of the moon-slash family. Decent across the board, nothing exceptional alone, and most useful when paired with the other moon Combo Attacks for theme stacking.
Proc Reminder: Combo Attack proc that fires inside a normal weapon string. Carries fire damage, so fire-scaling builds get extra mileage from it.
Fire-element builds, lean into Half Moon Slash. Neutral or other-element builds, prefer Wind Slash or Abyssal Rays for general Combo Attack coverage.
Half Moon Slash is the standard pick for fire-themed builds that want a Combo Attack proc on top of their fire weapon scaling. Outside of that niche it is a competent but unspectacular B tier slot, and most general builds will swap it out for a non-fire Combo Attack with stronger raw damage. Pair it with Crescent Moon Slash inside a moon-synergy build for the best outcome.
