Description | An organization that studies the ecology of the Crimson Desert. Because of its unique climate, the Crimson Desert is home to distinctive plants and animals within Pywel. Recently, they have been investigating a mysterious red tree discovered in the southeastern rainforest. |
Giant Yard's Research Group is a small expedition camped inside the Crimson Desert to study the desert's unusual ecology. Its founder and lead researcher is Janta, a botanist fascinated by natural phenomena that cannot be explained elsewhere on Pywel. Under Janta's direction, the group organized a camp, built up supplies, and leads excursions out toward the more remote anomalies of the region.
Their most notable subject is a massive, seemingly impossible tree growing in the middle of the sands. The team documents its behaviour, takes samples, and coordinates with guides from the wider Crimson Desert area to stay alive long enough to make progress. Because their base sits in hostile territory, they frequently end up hiring passing adventurers for protection against desert bandits.
Crimson Desert - the region where the team operates.
Bursada Ruins Research Team - parallel research faction in the rainforest.
Sandfang Marauders - bandits that threaten expeditions.
Like every faction in Crimson Desert, this group sits inside the game's five-tier reputation system: War, Hostile, Neutral, Friendly, and Alliance. Most factions begin at Neutral when first encountered, and reputation shifts as the player completes faction quests, contracts, and related world content. Reaching Alliance unlocks three compounding benefits: allied troops that assist in combat inside the faction's territory, exclusive vendors carrying items not sold anywhere else, and restricted resource nodes such as mining deposits, ingredient patches, and hidden dungeons.
Crimson Desert tracks approximately 110 factions in total across the continent of Pywel, split across four classification types: Core, Hostile, Religious, and Other. Contribution XP from completing faction quests feeds into standing with the issuing faction and, in several regions, into a shared regional reputation such as Demenissian Contribution or Pailunese Contribution. Progress is tracked on the reputation panel in the player menu, and reaching Alliance with a faction typically unlocks a named reward set that can include armor, weapons, mounts, or cosmetics such as the Pirate King Hat earned through Vellua Fishermen's Guild content.
