Pearl Abyss emphasizes freedom of movement through multiple traversal systems in Crimson Desert. The continent of Pywell, at least twice the size of Skyrim and larger than Red Dead Redemption 2, requires diverse movement options to explore efficiently.
From horseback riding to dragon flight, from grappling hooks to mechanical battle robots, players have numerous ways to traverse the five distinct regions: Hernand, Paleoon, Demeniss, Delesyia, and the Crimson Desert.
Kliff travels on foot with running (stamina-based) and climbing mechanics for scaling cliffsides and walls. Parkour-style movements allow fluid navigation of urban and natural environments.
The grappling hook slingshots Kliff rather than snapping directly to locations, transitioning smoothly into gliding. This creates dynamic movement chains across vertical terrain.
While horses serve as the starting mount, the repertoire expands to include wolves, bears, raptors, dragons, and a mechanical battle robot. Each mount offers different handling characteristics and combat capabilities.
Players can ride massive black bears that maul foes during mounted combat. Horses can even perform drifts: yes, horse drifting is a confirmed feature.

White Crow the Witch grants Kliff the 'Crow Wings' gliding ability, allowing him to leap from elevated positions and glide across distances. Hot Air Balloons provide access to the floating Abyss Islands.
Dragon flight enables full aerial traversal, helping players move quickly across the enormous landscape. The dragon can carpet-bomb enemies with flame during aerial combat sequences.
The Dwarven mech provides missile-firing traversal with jump jets. Though usable for limited periods, it offers unmatched destructive capability while moving.
Mystical gates transport players into the Abyss, a mysterious parallel realm. Press L3+R3 for aerial traversal, causing Kliff to fly up into the air for bow shots or dive attacks.

The game encourages organic discovery of landmarks, ruins, shrines, and regional points of interest rather than overwhelming the map with icons. Like Zelda or Soulslikes, side content has no markers, it's found through environmental clues, rumors picked up in towns, or NPC encounters.
Pearl Abyss stressed that meaningful activities and interaction matter more than map size alone. The world is designed to feel 'alive' with hidden treasures, ancient mechanisms, puzzles, and points of interest that reward curiosity.
