Enemies and Threats
June 16, 2026 at 05:56 AM
Added named demo enemies Mimic, Kkameong, and high-difficulty shadow monsters from the Next Fest demo build
The city-turned-dungeon of VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss is far from empty. It teems with hostile forces that range from the supernatural to the all-too-human, and surviving them is a core part of every dive. The variety of threats is one of the things that makes The Abyss feel dangerous and unpredictable.

The dangers fall into several broad groups. Anyone descending into the dungeon should expect to face a mix of the following:
Threat Type | Description |
|---|---|
Otherworldly monsters | Creatures from beyond the familiar world. |
Rampaging machines | Hostile mechanical foes loose in the ruins. |
Urban legends | Threats drawn from folklore and rumor. |
Humans driven to madness | People the dungeon has broken. |
The design pulls from cultural folklore and horror movies, which helps explain the eclectic range of things that can come after you in a single run.
A hands-on preview offered a closer look at the kinds of foes you encounter. Named enemy types include zombies, ghosts, serial killers, evil dolls, and mad cultists. This spread reinforces the horror tone of the game, mixing classic monsters with more unsettling human and uncanny threats rather than sticking to a single theme.
Beyond the regular enemies, the dungeon holds tougher encounters. The June 2026 update introduced all-new bosses, including a new mini-boss on the city-center map, as part of the content added ahead of Steam Next Fest 2026. Specific boss identities beyond these have not yet been detailed.
Enemies do more than threaten your health. Every fight keeps you in the dungeon longer, which feeds directly into the survival timers that govern a dive. Drawn-out battles burn light and let mental pressure climb, tying the threat of combat to Stress and Madness and the broader urgency of getting out. How you deal with these dangers comes down to your approach in Combat, where each operative brings a different way of handling what the Abyss throws at them.
Threats in the Abyss range from otherworldly monsters and rampaging machines to urban legends and people driven to madness. A hands-on preview listed specific demo enemies and noted that many designs draw on cultural folklore and horror films.
Threat | Notes |
|---|---|
Zombies and ghosts | Common horror enemies encountered while exploring. |
Serial killers | Human threats turned hostile inside the distorted city. |
Evil dolls | Small hostile constructs among the aberrations. |
Mad cultists | Humans driven to madness by the Abyss. |
Bosses | The June 2026 build added new bosses, including a mini-boss on the city-center map. |
Mimic | A named demo-build enemy referenced in patch notes; its normal attack speed was tuned down in the Next Fest update. |
Kkameong | Another named demo-build enemy; its movement speed was reduced in the Next Fest update. |
Shadow monsters | A high-difficulty enemy class. On harder settings their spawn interval was lengthened slightly in the Next Fest demo update. |
Demo patch notes also reference named hazards such as a Flamethrower Firefighter enemy whose explosion on death was made easier to read at a glance.
