The Eastern Wanderer's Shield is crafted at any Blacksmith after reading the Shields of the World, Vol. 1 crafting manual. This manual can be purchased at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. The crafting recipe requires Iron Ore x5 and Copper Ore x2. Iron Ore is gathered from mining nodes throughout the Hernandian Territory, while Copper Ore appears at select mining spots in and around Hernand. Both materials can also be purchased from material vendors if preferred.
The following materials are required to craft the Eastern Wanderer's Shield at a Blacksmith:
Iron Ore x5
Copper Ore x2
The Eastern Wanderer's Shield has 2 Abyss Core slots, allowing players to customize the shield with passive bonuses. Cores can be socketed or removed through a witch NPC at no cost, making experimentation straightforward. Some recommended cores for this shield include:
Fortification I (Defense +3): A straightforward defense boost that helps compensate for the shield's lower base defense.
Fortitude I (Guard Stamina Consumption -3.0%): Reduces the stamina drained when blocking, making sustained defense more efficient.
Aegis I (Damage Reduction 1.0): Provides flat damage reduction per hit, useful for absorbing chip damage from enemy combos.
The Eastern Wanderer's Shield stands out among Vol. 1 craftable shields for its Movement Speed Lv. 2 bonus, which is the highest movement speed bonus available on any shield at this crafting tier. This makes it a natural fit for players who favor an agile combat style built around dodging, repositioning, and quick hit-and-run attacks rather than standing firm behind a shield. At DEF 3, the base protection is modest, so players should rely on mobility and precise parry timing rather than sustained blocking against heavy hitters. The two Abyss Core slots allow customization, and refinement at a Blacksmith increases the base defense. Players who value movement above all else will find the Eastern Wanderer's Shield a strong early-game companion, comparable in speed to the Grey Wolf Wooden Shield but obtained through crafting rather than as starting equipment.
The following table compares the Eastern Wanderer's Shield with other shields that have a similar stat profile.

The Shields of the World, Vol. 1 manual is available at the Equipment Shop in Calphade, Hernand for 50 Copper. Purchase it early to unlock the full range of Vol. 1 shield recipes.
With a low base defense, this shield benefits significantly from early refinement levels. Even two or three refinement levels at a Blacksmith add meaningful protection.
The Movement Speed Lv. 2 bonus is very noticeable in combat. Use it to stay mobile while blocking, circling around enemies to find openings rather than standing still and tanking hits.
If you find a stronger shield, this one can be sold to free up inventory space. Check the Equipment section for other available shields.
Pairing any shield with a fast one-handed sword or dagger creates a balanced loadout where you can block incoming attacks and quickly counterattack between enemy swings.
