The Void

Initial article on the Void
The Void is the primary antagonistic force in Chrono Odyssey — an ancient, enigmatic entity that was once sealed within the Temporal Rift. It was awakened by Betelgeuse, the corrupted Sentinel of Magellan, who used his Chronotector's Temporal Tuning ability to manipulate time and break the seal. Once freed, the Void began consuming planets one by one, eventually destroying eleven of the twelve worlds created by Chronos. Setera is the last remaining world.
The Void manifests through several types of hostile entities:
Flayers — Common Void foot soldiers. Numerous and aggressive, they form the bulk of Void forces.
Deprived — Another class of Void enemy, distinct from Flayers in combat behavior and strength.
Void Origin (Precursors) — Distinguished by small numbers but remarkable might. Believed to possess high intelligence, unlike the more bestial Flayers and Deprived. Each Void Origin is a significant threat.
Individuals whose bodies have been contaminated by the Void are known as the Broken (also called World Movers). Void contamination causes seizures and bodily breakdown. If contamination reaches a critical point, it disrupts energy flow and leaves them in a zombie-like state — they retain some sense of self but attack anything on sight in a desperate attempt to restore lost energy. Some accounts suggest they completely lose their sense of self.
World Movers are survivors of Void-destroyed planets who fled to Setera. Blessed with extraordinary strength or luck, they take on powerful challenges. Three distinct factions exist within the World Movers, all seeking survival but engaged in internal power struggles.
The Void manifests in the open world through Void Nexus zones — dome-shaped corruption areas containing a Void Core (a cocoon-like object). Enemies constantly spawn from portals while the Core remains intact, and a boss appears during each encounter. Destroying the Core rewards players with Void Matter, a resource needed for high-level crafting.
Betelgeuse, the Sentinel of Magellan, is responsible for unleashing the Void. As the former Emperor of Magellan — a planet starved of Arche and cursed with famine — his motivations presumably relate to Magellan's suffering under Chronos's unequal distribution of life energy. The exact reasons remain mysterious and central to the game's narrative.
