11The Fallen is the first major boss of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. Konami describes him as a mysterious monster terrorising the people of Paris, and the first threat Rose encounters in the sewers. He holds one of the three keys that open the gate into the Catacombs.223+34Appearance and Attacks4556He is a hulking figure with metal claws, built along the lines of a werewolf or a Hyde, and he fights with a mix of reach and pressure. His health pool is large, and his attacks are well telegraphed enough that the fight rewards patience rather than reflexes.6778AttackBehaviourLeaping strikeCloses distance quickly.Holy Cross throwA thrown cross that travels out and returns like a boomerang.Whip attackReaches most of the width of the screen.Wall swingReported in the second phase: he grips Rose with a far-reaching whip and swings between the walls of the arena.ChargeA straight-line rush across the arena.Ground smashA downward blow that strikes the floor.Rafter swingReported in a later public build: he swings from the rafters of the arena to reposition.89Two Phases9101011Preview accounts of the fight describe a second phase triggered by cutting or cleaving his thrown Holy Cross out of the air rather than by a health threshold. That trigger comes from a single account and has not been confirmed by Konami, so treat the mechanism as reported rather than settled. What the second phase contains is the whip grip and the wall swinging above.11121213Accounts of the public show-floor builds differ slightly from accounts of the July press build on how much of this moveset appears and when. Both public demos were tuned easier than the retail game by the team's own account, so the difficulty and pacing described in any of them should not be read as shipping balance.13141415Rewards15161617RewardWhat it doesHoly Cross ArcanaA thrown, boomerang-style cross that can be caught on the return. The whip abilityReported under the name Pendulum and also called the Arcana Whip. It is the grapple and swing that opens up the map. Whether it is the Vampire Killer is not settled; see Whip and Traversal.A Catacombs keyOne of the three needed to open the gate.1718Boss rewards in this game are routinely multi-part rather than a single drop, and The Fallen is the clearest early example of that pattern.18191920Story20212122The Fallen is a victim rather than a villain. Some outside force was controlling his mind and driving him to gather souls, and defeating him breaks the spell. After the fight he is sealed into Rose's tarot deck like the other bosses and becomes a voice she can talk to, and the version that answers is the one from before the corruption. He is amiable and cooperative as a companion.22232324He is also the one boss whose true identity the game holds back. Other bosses give up their real names when they are defeated; he stays cagey about his, and no source outside the game reveals it.24252526The conversation with him is where Rose states the terms of her own curse: she has to control her emotions, or it will take over her whole body and kill her. More on that on Rose Belmont, and on the rest of the roster on Bosses.26272728The Fallen is voiced by Ray Chase in English and by 神奈延年 in Japanese, from the cast Konami announced on August 24, 2026. On the Japanese character page he is listed only as 怪物, meaning monster, rather than under a name, which is a first-party echo of the way the game holds his identity back. No name should be inferred from it. The full cast is on Characters.28292930What He Remembers30313132A later hands-on account fills in what he says about himself once he has been absorbed. He cannot remember much of who he used to be. What he does know is that he slaughtered innocent people for their souls, and that he was forced into doing it. That is consistent with the way the game frames its roster generally, as corrupted figures rather than villains, and it is why he reads as a tragic figure rather than a defeated enemy.32333334It also sharpens the one thing the game withholds about him. He is the only named boss whose true identity is not given up on defeat, and the reason offered in his own dialogue is that he does not have it to give.
