Refreshed wiki link existence flags after new game pages were published
11Castlevania: Belmont's Curse launches on October 15, 2026. This page collects the questions that come up most often before release and answers each one from what has actually been confirmed. Where something has not been published, that is stated rather than filled in. Every answer here is covered in more depth on the page it links to.22Quick Answers44QuestionAnswerWhen does it release?October 15, 2026 is the announced date. An opening-chapter demo is available on all four launch platforms from October 1, 2026, with same-platform, same-account save transfer.Do I need to have played earlier games? No. The team built it for players who have never played one.Is it connected to the animated series?Konami has stated there is no explicit continuity. Is there a Nintendo Switch 2 version?None has been announced. Is there DLC or a season pass?Nothing has been announced. Is there a boxed copy?Yes, on all three consoles. Only the premium edition has one.Is Rose a character from an earlier game? No. She was created for this game.66Is It a Roguelike?77No, and this is the question the game has been asked most. It comes up because Evil Empire ran long-term development on a well-known roguelite before this project, and because the two studios previously built a Castlevania add-on for it. Konami put the question to the team in its own developer interview and the answer given was that it would not be a roguelike. Konami's head of communications for its American branch, Tommy Williams, stated the same thing in writing, describing it as a 2D action-exploration game in which players freely explore large hand-built maps, and saying plainly that it is not a roguelike or a rogue-lite.99Concretely: there is no permadeath and no procedural generation. Dying returns Rose to the nearest checkpoint with nothing lost. A shared studio is not a shared design, and the earlier add-on is a separate product. See Development History.1111Do I Need to Have Played the Earlier Games?1313No. Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi has described the audience he was aiming at as metroidvania players who had never played a Castlevania game, many of whom knew the series only from the animated adaptation. The story is set in Paris in 1499 with a new protagonist, Rose Belmont, created for this game, and the setup it needs is delivered in the opening: a letter brings her and her father to a burning city, and they are separated on the docks.1515The game is placed twenty-three years after an earlier entry, and the team has named a handful of earlier titles as influences on story and on how the whip feels. Those are statements about what inspired the team. None of those games' systems, maps or rosters carry over, and nothing on this wiki is imported from them.1717Is It Connected to the Animated Series?1919Konami has stated there is no explicit continuity between this game and the animated adaptation, and creative director Emmanuel Nouaille has said there is no specific reference to it. Some performers in the English cast have played the same roles in animation, and Konami noted as much in its own announcement, but that is a casting fact. Shared casting is not shared canon, and the show's versions of these characters are not a guide to this one. The documented influence is visual and cinematographic rather than narrative.2121What Am I Actually Buying?2323EditionUnited StatesUnited KingdomContentsDigital Standard$29.99£24.99The main game.Digital Midnight$39.99£34.99The main game, the Digital Sound and Art Gallery, and three in-game items.Physical MidnightRetailer pricingRetailer pricingThe same contents as the digital Midnight Edition.2525Pre-ordering or buying early on any edition adds the Alucard Style Costume for Rose, which is the only form Alucard takes in this game. The Midnight Edition adds the Trevor Style Costume, the Sypha Style Costume, and Family's Grace, which Konami lists as a Relic rather than a cosmetic, so it is a gameplay item. Full contents, regional extras and the Japanese retailer bonus list are on Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.2626There is no season pass, no battle pass, no in-game currency and no announced downloadable content. It is a one-time purchase.2828How Does It Play?3030Konami's own genre description is 2D Action-Exploration. Rose moves through one large connected map of Paris rather than a sequence of stages, opening shortcuts and gated routes as she gains abilities. Her whip is a movement tool as much as a weapon: she swings from anchors, grapples enemies, and can use any enemy as a swing point. Melee weapons carry the damage, drawn from seven distinct categories.3232The signature system is the Arcana. Many defeated bosses are sealed into the tarot cards her mother left her, and that card then grants both a spell and a special action. Only one can be equipped at a time. See Arcana System, Whip and Traversal and Weapons.3434Is It Hard?3636The base game is demanding, and every hands-on account of the preview build said so. Bosses punish mistakes, and fights are built around learning patterns and using the invincibility frames on the dodge. It is not paired with a harsh failure state: dying costs nothing beyond returning to the nearest checkpoint, checkpoints are generously spaced, and passing one refills the healing flasks.3838Adjustable modifiers exist, including changes to damage dealt and damage taken and automatic respawns outside boss doors. The published list is explicitly incomplete, and no easy, normal or hard selector has been described. See Difficulty Options.4040Is There a Demo?4242A downloadable Demo has been available since October 1, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It covers the opening chapter and lets players carry their save into the full game on the same platform and account.4444EventDatesStatusgamescom 2026August 26 to 30, 2026Hands-on at Konami's booth in Cologne, Hall 07.1, Stand A021 to B020.PAX West 2026Announced by Konami on August 3, 2026Konami brought the game to the show floor.Tokyo Game Show 2026September 17 to 21, 2026 (scheduled; September 21 canceled)Exhibited with a playable build, billed by Konami as the first playable in Japan.4646The July 2026 three-hour press session and the later show-floor sessions were pre-release builds. At Tokyo Game Show, a twenty-minute hands-on account described the sewers, The Fallen, the magical gate and a route toward a guard tower. Those observations describe that event build, rather than the entire downloadable demo or the finished game. See Tokyo Game Show 2026 and Development History.4747Is Rose a Returning Character?4949No. She is original to this game. Asked directly whether she is a version of a woman who led an earlier entry in the series, the team said the two are completely different people. She is also not drawn from the animated adaptation. See Rose Belmont.5151Can I Buy It on Disc?5353Yes, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Only the premium edition is sold physically; the Standard Edition is digital only everywhere. The United States retail box is branded Night One Edition rather than Midnight Edition, and it lists the Alucard costume among its contents rather than as a pre-order condition. Full details are on Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.5555What Has Not Been Announced5757Several things readers ask about have no answer yet, and this wiki records them as open rather than guessing. The composer of the 71-track soundtrack is uncredited. The engine has not been named. Two of the seven weapon categories have not been named. There is no post-launch roadmap and no downloadable content. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 version announced, and the absence of one has not been explained by anyone at Konami, so it should be read as observed rather than as a stated decision. Claims filling any of these gaps have no source behind them.
