The Network Test is a short server-load test for ArcheAge Chronicles announced on 3 September 2026 and scheduled for the weekend of 12 September 2026. It is the first test of the game publicly announced for a Western territory, and the first any player could apply for rather than being invited into a closed group.
Item | Detail |
|---|---|
Announced | 3 September 2026 |
Test window | Saturday 12 September 2026, 19:00 through Sunday 13 September 2026, 01:00 Eastern Daylight Time |
Duration | Six hours |
Eligible players | Steam users located in the United States and Canada |
Selection | Random, drawn from players who requested access on the Steam page |
Cost | Free; no purchase required |
The six-hour window is deliberately narrow. A load test needs concurrency rather than duration, so the value comes from a large number of players connecting inside the same short period rather than from extended play.
The studio states a single objective: to evaluate server performance and network stability under heavy load. That is a narrower goal than a closed beta, which typically gathers feedback on systems, balance, and progression. Nothing in the announcement asks players to evaluate combat, classes, or economy, and the studio has not said the test will produce a public findings summary.
Access is limited to a selection of content described as primarily the early areas of the game. The announcement states plainly that the full range of content will not be available. Nothing has been published about which zones, which of the four classes shown so far are playable, what level ceiling applies, or whether Housing, trade, or other Life Skills appear at all.
The build is described as an early development build. The studio warns that features may be limited and that players should expect bugs and unexpected behavior.
Players request access through a button on the game's Steam store page. Requesting access registers interest; it does not guarantee a place. Participants are drawn at random from the pool of requests, and selected players are notified by email. A separate Steam listing, ArcheAge Chronicles Playtest, exists as the distribution channel for the test build. The build is available for pre-download before the window opens, which the studio recommends so that download time does not eat into the six hours.
The announcement asks participants to refrain from live streaming during the test where possible, and asks anyone who does stream to state clearly that the footage comes from a network test run to evaluate server stability. This is not a formal embargo and no non-disclosure agreement is mentioned. The concern appears to be framing: an early build under deliberate load is not a fair sample of the finished game, and unlabeled footage would be read as one.
Test | When | Who took part | What it was for |
|---|---|---|---|
Early focus groups | Through 2025 | Small invited groups under non-disclosure | Early build feedback, referenced in the July 2025 producer's letter |
Closed focus group test | June 2026 | 165 invited participants | Systems and class feedback; 2,006 total hours played, highest level reached 16 |
Network Test | 12 to 13 September 2026 | Steam users in the United States and Canada, selected at random | Server performance and network stability under load |
The April 2026 conference call had described a closed beta test planned for June. What ran that month was the closed focus group test above, a smaller and more tightly scoped exercise. As of the network test announcement, no broad closed or open beta has been announced or dated for any territory.
The game targets a Steam Early Access launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. A load test roughly three months out is consistent with that: server capacity planning is one of the last things a service game validates before opening the doors. The test does not narrow the launch date, and the studio has not tied the two together in public. See Platforms and Business Model for the full release timeline and Development Timeline for the sequence of announcements.
Territories outside the United States and Canada have not been given a test date. The studio has not said whether further network tests are planned, whether a Korean-side test will run separately, how many participants will be selected, or whether the results will be published. Whether the test build reflects the Early Access content scope is also undescribed.
