Twining

Added the two-layer traversal breakdown including the graded Climb, Fly and Swim capabilities
Twining is the signature mechanic of Aniimo, and the source of its motto, Be One Be All. By Twining with a captured Aniimo, a Pathfinder can essentially become that creature, taking on its form, its skills, and its way of seeing the world.

Any Aniimo a player has collected can be Twined with, turning the creature into a tool for solving problems. Players use an Aniimo's skills to clear puzzles, win battles, and overcome obstacles that a Pathfinder could not handle alone.
The studio's own framing is direct about what the mechanic is for. You do not just have an Aniimo, you can become one, and Twining is what lets a Pathfinder see the whole continent again through a creature's eyes, wings and senses. The same framing describes bonding as a way to join an Aniimo's family rather than simply to recruit it.
Twining is closely tied to movement and exploration. Depending on the creature, players can glide through the air, dive underwater, or burrow through the ground, with the world built so that you can step foot almost anywhere. This makes a varied collection of Aniimo a key to reaching new places across Idyll.
The index publishes two separate traversal layers per creature, and they work differently.
Layer | What It Is | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
Mobility ability | A named signature move, such as Hustle, Tunnel, Take Off or Cloudwalk, with its own effect text. | About half the index |
Traversal grade | The plain capabilities Climb, Fly and Swim, each graded from level 1 to level 3. | 43 of 94 entries |
A creature can carry one, both, or neither. Because the grades are levelled rather than binary, two fliers are not interchangeable: a level 3 flier reaches things a level 1 flier does not. The full breakdown of both layers is on Mobility Skills.
That is why gliding, diving and burrowing are described as things particular Aniimo bring rather than a universal toolkit. The traversal option a player has at any moment depends on which companion they are wearing.
Because each Aniimo brings its own movement and abilities, a wider collection unlocks more ways to traverse and solve challenges. The breadth of Twining is what the slogan Be One Be All captures: the more creatures you collect, the more forms and abilities you can call on.
Forms add another layer to that. A creature's Form changes its elemental pairing and where it lives, so the same species collected in two Forms is two different tools.
