Deng Yang

Deng Yang (邓阳) is a renegade Thousand-Man Commander (千户) of the Jinyiwei who serves as a boss encounter in the game's demo. He wields fire-based attacks and is the primary antagonist of the demo mission.

Thousand-Man Commander (千户, Qianhu) is a mid-to-senior rank within the Jinyiwei hierarchy. In the historical organization, a Qianhu commanded roughly a thousand soldiers. Deng Yang's renegade status means he has broken from the Jinyiwei's authority while retaining his combat skills and command experience.

Combat

Deng Yang fights using fire-imbued attacks. The encounter difficulty varies depending on how the player approached the mission leading up to the fight.

• Underprepared fight — Players who rushed to the boss encounter face Deng Yang at full strength in an enclosed arena. Without fire-resistance gear, his elemental attacks deal heavy damage.

• Prepared fight — Players who explored the level thoroughly could find fire-resistance equipment and superior weapons. Some exploration paths even allowed players to weaken Deng Yang before the final confrontation.

Narrative choices

After defeating Deng Yang, the player can choose to kill him or show mercy. This decision produces divergent story outcomes, feeding into the game's branching narrative system.
