Initial version (2026-08-07)
Pang Tong is the strategist who travels with the player character in Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. He is the sequel's central supporting figure and the reason the game carries a phoenix in its title: his sobriquet, the Fledgling Phoenix, is the counterpart to the Crouching Dragon that named the first game.
Official material describes Pang Tong as a close friend of the champion, caught up in the same war rather than serving as his lord. He counsels a hero bent on revenge, and he is presented as a man of conscience: someone who cares about ordinary people, keeps his humanity in a brutal age, and wants the fighting to end. He fights at the champion's side against Cao Cao's armies, and the bond between the two is described as the thread running through the whole story.
The studio has built the pair as a deliberate contrast. The champion is defined by martial skill and Pang Tong by intellect, and Team Ninja has said that contrast is one of the sequel's main draws. The confirmed campaigns the two fight through, including Changban and Red Cliffs, are covered under Setting and Story.
The producer has said this Pang Tong leans toward the legendary, novelistic version of the figure rather than the sparser historical record, but is not a straight reproduction of it. The team added its own reading, drew on parts of the historical material and on the folklore that grew up around him, and describes the result as a version they took apart and rebuilt. Choosing him over the better-known Zhuge Liang was a framing decision made while the first game's downloadable chapters were in development: a story themed on the Crouching Dragon had to be followed by the Fledgling Phoenix. The producer has added that reading about Pang Tong left him with a strong sense of romance about the figure and a wish to tell more of his story.
No portrait, voice actor or gameplay role has been announced for Pang Tong. Whether he is a companion in combat, a hub character, or tied to the divine beast bonds that the sequel carries over has not been stated, and the studio has said more is being held for later announcements.
