The Medical Handbook is an antique medical reference recovered from a deceased ship's surgeon. The endpaper has been cut out, the implication is that something else was hidden inside it before the player found the book.

The old handbook is full of marginal notes and comments. The back endpaper is cut off, something was obviously kept in it.

Lore Context

The cut endpaper hint suggests this book was used for smuggling small items (a folded letter, gem, or coin) inside the binding. As a quest pickup, the handbook may itself be the actual smuggle artifact, or it may serve as the marker pointing the player to where the original contents went.
