Disassembly Station

Initial version (2026-05-14)
Disassembly Station is the craft station in Windrose used to break crafted equipment back down into their component materials. The station accepts most player-crafted items and returns a portion of their original ingredients, which makes it the standard reclamation point for upgraded gear that is being replaced by a new build.
Place an item into the Disassembly Station's input slot and the station produces a list of recoverable materials. The exact yield depends on the item's tier; common-tier items return a higher percentage of their original cost, while rare and unique items return a smaller portion. The station does not return faction-rep-locked components and does not refund the gold cost of vendor-purchased blueprints.
Hotfix 0.10.0.4.268 on April 30, 2026 changed how the take-apart menu lists available items. The station no longer surfaces currently-equipped items in its disassembly list. Before the patch, a worn armor piece, an equipped weapon, or a slotted accessory could appear in the menu and be dismantled while still on the character, which made accidental gear loss easy. Post-patch, the player has to manually unequip an item before it becomes a valid disassembly target.
This is a UI-level safety rule, not an item-state rule. Items in storage chests, in inventory, and in stash slots are still eligible. Only the slot or hotbar a piece is actively assigned to triggers the new exclusion.
The most common workflow is post-upgrade reclamation. After crafting a higher-tier weapon or armor piece, the predecessor often holds materials the new build does not need. Dismantling returns the recyclable portion to inventory rather than letting the older piece sit unused in a chest.
A second common use is for accidental crafts. Players who run a build script through the crafting menu and produce extra copies of an item can dismantle the spares at the Disassembly Station without losing the full material investment.
The Disassembly Station follows standard craft-station placement rules. It needs a flat foundation and a roof above it; the roof requirement is satisfied by the same building pieces that satisfy other craft stations, including Decorative Canopies after Hotfix 0.10.0.4.268. Worker assignment is not currently supported; the station operates manually only.
