Multiplayer and Co-op
October 14, 2026 at 12:17 AM
Initial version (2026-10-14)
Westlanders can be played alone or in online co-op. Official materials since the reveal have described groups of up to four players, and the developers have said the game is co-op only, with no PvP in the initial plan. The game is unreleased; everything here is planned.
Each store listing words the multiplayer support differently. The listings below were current as of October 2026.

Local co-op was requested by players in January 2026. A staff reply said it would be forwarded to the development team. As of October 2026, local co-op has not been announced.
In a pinned FAQ on the game's Steam discussion board in January 2026, the team said the game will be a player-hosted world that others can join. Other players can join and drop out at any point, each has their own levelling experience, and "the main quests and world progress will be shared!"
Replying in September 2026 to a June 2026 question on the Steam discussion board, a developer said progression is tied to the session of whoever hosts. A player's progression in their own hosted session will differ from their progression in a friend's.
The same reply said there is world progression in the form of Reputation, shared by all players in a session. A player who is temporarily under-levelled can still contribute to world progression after joining. The main difference between players will be the range of recipes each one knows how to craft, and others can lend equipment and help them level up. Recipes are covered on Crafting and Tech Tree.
A January 2026 developer blog said each player will be able to build and operate their own wagon, or take a seat with another player. See The Wagon.
Asked in December 2025 about dedicated servers, a developer said: "We can’t guarantee they’ll be ready on day one, but they’re part of our roadmap". As of October 2026, no date for dedicated servers has been announced.
The January 2026 FAQ said cross-play is planned between the different PC versions, such as Steam players playing with Epic Games Store players. Cross-play between PC and consoles was described as a trickier one that the team would love to do but that would be hard for day one. Consoles are planned for the 1.0 launch; see Release Date and Platforms.
In December 2025, a developer said the studio's vision is to bring a co-op game to players, that PvP is "not the initial plan", and that it might come one day. The January 2026 FAQ said "Today's answer is co-op only", adding that the team may reconsider based on the game's commercial success.
The January 2026 FAQ linked co-op to the camera: the team will need to produce animations for how friends look in co-op, and those animations could also serve a third-person view. Replying in September 2026 to a June 2026 thread, a developer confirmed a third-person mode is in development, with free switching between first and third person. See Early Access.
Dedicated servers at the start of Early Access (not guaranteed as of December 2025; no date as of October 2026).
Cross-play between PC and consoles (described as hard for day one in January 2026; not announced as of October 2026).
Local or split-screen co-op (not announced as of October 2026).
Character progression that carries between different hosts' sessions (progression was tied to the host's session as of September 2026; no change announced as of October 2026).
Shared experience points between players (a player suggestion with no official answer as of October 2026).
