Auroch announced the game on November 4, 2025 as a frenetic roguelike survivors game set in the Warhammer universes. A week later it thanked players for the response and published an FAQ: other platforms had not been announced yet, the game was not a Vampire Survivors DLC, and Tyranids and Skaven were only the first enemies shown.
The Triple-i Initiative showcase on April 9, 2026 brought the console announcement, the Orks and the first Extremis Boss. The tenth Warhammer Skulls showcase on May 21, 2026 brought the first demo, two Chaos factions and three stages. The Gloomspite Gitz were revealed with the release date on October 6, 2026, bringing the confirmed enemy factions to six.
The first demo drew over 190,000 players by mid-July 2026. In response Auroch said it was rebalancing enemies, characters and weapons, adding cross-universe currency sharing, fixing unreachable chests and adding skippable sequences, all subject to change. It removed the first demo from the store after July 22 and released a new demo on October 6, 2026. See Demo.
Two art blogs in August 2026 described how the team worked. Concepting started with discussions about environments that feel inherently Warhammer alongside surprising new ones, then rough test scenes to settle the sprite style. Bloodwind Spoil was shown from concept to in-development stage. The second blog covered simplifying detailed miniatures into small sprites, nailing how each weapon feels, and the team's favourite factions. Auroch said a third blog on the game's warzones would follow.
Beyond the partnership with Warhammer and poncle, Auroch worked with Water Witch Studio on stages and art passes and with RocketBrush on characters, enemies and effects.
