Overview
The White Tyrant is a giant polar bear and one of the Special Mission bosses in Vindictus: Defying Fate. The mission "Dethrone the White Tyrant" can be attempted solo (with a follower) or in a group of up to four players. During the June 2025 alpha test, it was the most defeated boss with over 351,000 player victories.
Attack patterns
The White Tyrant fights with a mix of paw swipes, stomps, and body slams:

Item | Description |
|---|---|
Right paw swipe | The bear lowers its body to the right, then quickly swipes forward with its right paw. Karok can Clash this attack. |
Double stomp into swipe | Stomps quickly with both paws, rears up, then swipes with its left paw. This attack inflicts the Dullness debuff, which slows the player's actions. |
Body turn | Turns approximately 140 degrees, dealing contact damage during the rotation. Getting clipped by the body during a turn is a common way to take unexpected damage. |
Backward leap | Leaps backward to create distance, dealing contact damage on takeoff. |
Standing roar combo | Stands up and roars, then executes a three-attack combo. Stomp with right paw, swipe with right paw, then slide forward and to the left. Watch the bear's facing direction during the roar to predict where the combo ends. |
Breakoff strategy
The White Tyrant has a breakoff mechanic triggered by environmental interactions. Throwing objects at the bear stuns it. Large ice chunks from nearby stalagmites are the most effective projectile. When stunned, throwing a spear into the bear's eye triggers the breakoff, dealing massive damage and creating an extended vulnerability window.
Chain Hooks can also be used: attaching 2 hooks to any of the bear's legs pins it down temporarily, giving time for a spear throw or sustained free attacks. The bear has a long knockdown recovery animation, so downed states are valuable damage windows.
Tips
The White Tyrant is generally considered the more accessible of the two alpha Special Missions. Its attacks are well-telegraphed with readable wind-up animations, and the breakoff mechanic provides a clear path to victory for players who use the environment. Karok is particularly effective here, his Clash works on the right paw swipe, and his high stagger output keeps the bear off-balance.
